Re: Falling overboard

We've discussed this over the years but not to a huge degree..
Often the old argument of dry suits, death trousers and such comes into play so the subject gets put to bed.

Basically, the way i see it.. A ladder is the best option for many, Lots of folk have the ladders, but i've yet to see one on display whilst folk are on their sibs/fribs/ribs!
You can in an emergency use the outboard plate but the lack of room to actually board over the transom does make it difficult for most folk... My launch wheels very quickly and easily drop down, I then have plenty boarding room and extra footings on the launch wheel arm.
I don't wear a dry suit, so i'd suffer very quickly from cold water shock unless i frame myself... So it's practice and act fast or expect the worst!!

Martin :cheers

Dont laugh but if you are able to reach over far enough to deflate a tube just enough to enable you to roll into the boat, you can then re inflate the tube and head home. The boat will be quite happy to sit on a part deflated tube i'm sure. Must try that in summer....

Usually wear a wetsuit in summer or a drysuit when it’s colder.

Generally wetsuits not that good/warm just sitting on a boat unless you’re planning to be in and out the water...such as skiing/wakeboarding etc. Having said that, I often wear a fleece or wind proof shell over for extra warmth.

If you already have one, great wear it, but I wouldn’t recommend getting one just to sit on a boat.

On of the issues with the rope ladder system is your feet go under the boat when you get on the first 'rung' and make it very difficult.

As someone previously the best thing is not to fall in

Below is a rope ladder I made out of heavy duty flexy tube and rope, took about an hours to make and cost me 3euros. :thumbsup

My preferred method was to go to the stern and use the engine's anti-ventilation plate as a footstep?

I purchased the official ladder for our Excel SIB and it was next to useless for reasons already mentioned.

Nice setup and the bimini doesn't look half bad!
