Attaching Echo sounder Transducer

Post by Cat10 » 27 May 2020, 19:54

Hi folks , I have a T38. How do you guys install your echo sounder transducers on your T38,s.
I was thinking of just strapping it on to the back of one of the side tubes. What do you think ?

@The Hobbit straps his under the tube. @Mitch and I both fasten ours to the launch wheels. Do you have launch wheels on yours? I have a 3D printed bracket which I use.

Brilliant, just what I was looking for.
I have got launch wheels and I like the look of that bracket,
did you make it or buy it ?
Are there any pros and cons for strapping the transducer to the tubes or mounting it like you have it on the wheels ?
Many thanks

I made the bracket. What transducer do you have? It might be suitable for yours.

Pros and cons - strapping to the tube can be easier, depending on the transducer as some have a bracket for strapping them to the bottom of a trolling motor, but you are more likely to catch it on the bottom if you beach the boat, and it can’t flip up out of the way.
Using a bracket on the launch wheels makes it less prone to getting knocked, but need a bracket.

@Mitch uses a lump of wood and some pipe clips.

I shamelessly plagiarised @Mitch and went the lump of wood route.

I used a couple of bits of waste pipe, cut along their length, then shoved inside one another. The outer one is screwed to the wood. They were just the right diameter to give a firm grip on the launching wheel leg, but I have since added a pair of hose clamps to grip even more. I found that at top speed there was enough force on the transducer that it would rotate on the leg so it wasn't pointing straight down. The hose clamps cured that. :thumbsup

Hi Chris, I have a Garmin Striker Echo sounder.
The transducer looks similar to yours.
Did you make the bracket or buy it.
I would be more than happy to pay you to make one for me if you print them yourself.

Cheers

Phil.
