Registering a sib

Hi all,am new to this ...do i have to register my inflatable dinghy to use on canals and rivers here in the uk ...it is powered with a petrol outboard engine ??

Depending on which canals and rivers its either

canal & river trust (who have the biggwst network) or the enviroment agency.

both have websites where you can see what waterways they run and be able to register and get a licence.

Not sure where in the country you are as you haven't put your location on your profile - if you're near the Thames then you need to register if using the non-tidal section. You can buy a day, week or month 'visitor' registration at a manned lock, details here:

For the tidal section of the Thames no registration is required, apart from the short stretch between Teddington Lock and the Port of London Authority’s boundary. Details here:

Hi, my understanding is you don't have to register an sib and you are exempt from the safety certificate, but you do have to buy the river license from which ever authority cover the stretch you are boating on. Canal and river trust used to do a day pass, but it seems to have gone to a week minimum since 1st April this year. You can also choose to get a license for either river only or canal and river, which is more expensive. I was recently on the River Avon which that particular stretch wasn't covered by the Canal and River Trust and they also issued their own license with similar rules. All require insurance however for powered craft.
