Honwave t38 engine size

Hi guys, not posted for a while ,was thinking about trying to find a lighter outboard than the honda bf 20 ,one that i can carry down beach and put on boat at waters edge to try make things a bit easyer on my own ,obviously going to lose performance but what in others experience is the smallest engine that will still get t38 on the plane and still give reasonable top speed ,i have seen tohatsu 9.9 2 strokes ate still available for commercial use ,would one push it as engine only 27kg which would be great to carry

I have a 9.9 mariner 4 stroke on my T38 and it shoves me along at 12-13knots quite happily (and I am a big bloke.) Martin got 15knots out of my setup.

I also have a 1984 9.9 Johnson 2 stroke that weighs very little (not sure how much, but I can lift it one handedly easily enough). That pushes the boat along nicely at about the same speed as the 4 stroke, although it eats fuel.

So in short, the 9.9 will be fine one up fully loaded or 2 up loaded light.

Thanks chris, good to know ,some of caravan sites i go to have no slipways and cant manage on my own ,I'm thinking with smaller engine could pull boat down on its launch wheels then carry engine ,trying to make job easier to get more use out of boat

With the lighter engine you can move the boat with the engine on it.

We can always try my Tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke on @ChrisParish's T38 sometime.

Here is a video of myself (Fat Git) and my wife (Quite small) in our Honwave T38IE with our Tohatsu 9.8 2 Stroke.... Goes ok me thinks.. Getting on the plane not as quick as with the 15 hp but once there very good

The 9.8 hp 2 stroke Tohatsu is a great little engine for a sib, I love mine. Occasionally good secondhand ones come up for sale, if you spot one buy it and then hang on to it.

Hi Folks, i am going away next weekend and i am meeting up with a fellow siber i am going to ask him if i can try his engine on the T38 i believe he has a 15hp suzy wish me luck.

I run my T38 with a 2 stroke Yamaha from 1985, very juicy but goes very well
