thanks for the interest chris, i rang bridger marine and asked them for a complete break down of prices on the 20/30 tohatsu range both standard manual and electric . i cant see the point of spending all that money and not getting power trim, but what do i know?...anyway as soon as the figures are in i will decide but as with everything the cost keeps rising ,so i expect to make a decision before the end of the week

If you are trailering then go for electric start and power trim - I know I would.

Great stuff :D
Please, don’t apologise to me lol, it’s your money and your craft.
I just hope you’ve made the right choice for you, your needs and something you’re able to handle on your own 👏

There appears to be a feeling of “Martin hates ribs” flying around this place.
I don't hate any craft, anything that gets us out and onto the water is great!

All I’m concerned about is people getting the information they need to make the right choice.
If creating conflicting thoughts through the group aids the final decision, that’s good.. it’s a discussion forum after all.

Martin :cheers

As the 25 and 30 are the same weight I would go for the 30. You can't have too much power as long as you can transport it. The Tohatsu and Mercury are the same base outboard from Tohatsu. While the Tohatsu has a bit longer warranty I went for the Mercury for the new adjustable tiller. It's a great feature for the way I use my F-rib!

Ok, see pigeons - insert cat.

Have you looked at the Evinrude Etec 2 strokes? They are comparatively light, very powerful, eu pollution compliant and have a three year service interval (which is incredible, really)
They do a 25 and a 30 with electric start, trim / tilt and tiller. They are a little more expensive but you may well recoup that against lower service costs. Also the run-in period is very low - they claim there isn’t one; full power straight from the box.

Well the dealer should know what’s available.

Strange that Tohatsu seem to make the 25/30 in EPT (elec start, power tilt/trim) with an option for multi-function tiller. Perhaps only available in certain markets.

Tohatsu options

Having said that, not sure I’d be that bothered with electric start on a tiller motor anyway. Power tilt and trim would be nice for on the fly adjustments, but again not essential. Just think how much dosh you’ll save going pull start. :D

well spotted harrison, but i beat you to it ,tohatsu can put a multi function handle on just about all their motors and i emailed the dealer to point that out. having said that somebody tipped me the wink about pacer marine and on the face of it they seem cheaper all round so i gave them a call this morning , told them my needs, have been promised a quick response . but back to your comment about power or the absence of it ,i think you are probably right, i will likely have to forget it .this thread is probably getting on peoples nerves now so i wont post any more until i have taken delivery . by the way chris parish thanks for the reply but i couldnt go down the road of 2stroke dont ask me why because i cant give you a reason,i just couldnt do it
