The problem is I can't find anyone that manufactures cleavers for such a small engine (it's only a 9.8). Maximum prop diameter is only 8.9 inches.

I had mentioned a chopper prop earlier but after reading more up on them, I think you need a cleaver prop for ventilation instead. Also designed to raise the stern. Chopper will raise the bow.

Our SIB originally had the really bad hull build and we had a lot of ventilation issues because of it. I made a cavitation plate which helped immensely. Since it was just a thin plate of aluminum and didn't try to lift the stern like a hydrofoil, it didn't have much drag.

Even when we got the hull fixed and I was solo in the boat, it would ventilate and I added the plate back again to resolve this.

Wrote a note said, 'back in a minute'. Bought a boat and I sailed off in it.

The new prop is fitted to the outboard now, but the weather is not suitable for sibbing this weekend :(

I've been a little disconnected from the boating scene.
That boat looks real basic, but alot of fun. Do they go well?

I like it and it will suit what I want it for, which is a portable boat for long distance exploring.

The Takacat has pros and cons

For:
Goes well with small hp engines
Amazing fun to helm
Masses of deck space for the length
Lightweight for easy transportation
Packs away into two bags not one so easier to pack in a car boot
Easy to get aboard from the water due to the open bow

Against:
Quite fussy about propeller size, pitch and shape. It’s definitely not something that you can fit any engine to and use straight out the box

I can vouch for it being damned good fun! Chris was good enough to let me have a play on our last outing. It’s disconcerting how flat it turns and how close to the water you are but it is superb fun.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Hi Chris,

have you been out with the new prop? How does it work?
Do you have Permatrim Hydrofoils on your engine?

Mark
