Re: Anchor
Chris, what size and length anchor rope would you recommend.ChrisParish wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 08:56The end of your anchor rope needs to be fastened to the d-loops inside the bow of your boat:

When you deploy the anchor you want it to be attached to the handle under the bow:

The way I do this is I have a carabeena attached to the end of the painter (the blue rope that comes attached to the bow handle when you buy the boat). When I have let out my anchor rope to the length I want I tie a loop in the anchor rope using an overhand knot like this:
840E234D-59A0-4118-B77B-FDA7B01ADE50.jpeg
Then I clip the carabeena to this loop and let it over the side.
What you have now, starting from the sea bed, is anchor - chain - anchor rope - carabeena - painter - boat.
The very end of the anchor rope remains attached to the D-loop from the first picture. When you want to bring in the anchor you pull on the rope which first brings up the painter. Detach the carabeena, untie the overhand knot and then pull the rest of the rope up.
It’s sounds complex, but it’s pretty easy when you try it.
Hope that helps!
Cheers

Re: Anchor
It depends on how deep you will be anchoring.
As a guide, i would go with:
1 to 2 x length of boat in chain - good heavy galvanised chain plays a really big part in getting your anchor to set.
2 to 4 x the depth of water in rope. So if you are going to anchor in water 25m deep you need Between 50 and 100 m of rope. The tougher the sea / stronger the current the more rope you need.
I know it sounds overkill, but when done right even a relatively small anchor can hold a large boat.
The rope doesn’t have to be thick - 8mm three strand nylon would be enough. Take a look at this link:
https://boatworld.co.uk/boats/anchors-m ... anchor-kit
This would be a good starting point of anything except deep water.

Re: Anchor
Just the one will do.
Nothing stopping you connecting both; belt and braces, as they say.

Re: Anchor
Chris, how do you attach the anchor rope to the " D " handle on the bow.
I can see you attach it with a knot in the rope set to the right length.
Just can,t figure out how you get the the D handle to attach it.

Re: Anchor
Hi,
You attach the anchor rope to a carabeena which you attached to the end of the painter - the blue rope which comes attached to the bow handle d-loop thing.
That way when you let the anchor rope out a little further it pulls the painter into the water. To bring the anchor back up you pull on the anchor rope which is still in the boat.
Does that make any sense? Maybe I should do a quick drawing.

Re: Anchor
Drawing would be great if you don,t mind......sorry to be a pain !
Do you have a rope tied to the painter so that you can pull it up into the boat, so you can attach the anchor rope then lower into the water.
( the penny has nearly dropped."...)

Re: Anchor
This all seems complicated to me,
I just chuck the anchor over, let out enough rope & tie off on the cleat
