Camber to Ryde is only 4 nm.
Never been on the water if its rough, so even 4nm will feel like 4 hell miles ! :erm

Oh well, only way to learn lol !

You’ll be fine, Andy. If it’s rough then all you have to do is slow down. If you find yourself running straight into the waves and it is unpleasant then tack.
Besides, you have a dry suit and the T40 is a pretty dry boat anyway so you will be fine.

Tack ! Aint done that for donkeys years ! I went out with a girl when I was, like 22, her dad bought her a small "sailing dingy" but she couldn't find the wind, I was well disappointed, I knew where it was was all the while, but she wouldn't give me a go on the rudder ! It was straight in front of me face, but she couldn't sort it out !
That was my biggest problem with her lol ! But hey not my boat ! :thud

We were first past the line on the gun, and last to come in ! I like to win and I was not amused ! :no

So I take it you go at 45 deg to the waves and keep "tacking". You get no where quick, but you bounce allot ? :yay

It depends on things like wave length, wind, tide, your speed, vessel length - all manner of things. I would expect that the best thing to do will become obvious to you when you are out there. If all else fails, drop to displacement speeds (unless that is slower than the tide....)

I have been out on the Solent in my T38 in a force 4-5 wind against tide and although it was choppy it never felt unsafe. I dropped to just below 10knots and got back without any problem. You will be fine.

Yeah, slow down, read the wave pattern, pick your way through them, use the throttle to power up face, ease off to crest, and cruise down the back.

Or alternatively, have some fun and take them like the Zapcat boys do.

Is Hythe marina not any good for launching ? I popped down there today to have a look , free to use the slip and £6 to park for over 5 hours!

I have a feeling that Hythe is only any good at high tide. Could be wrong. The marina itself has a lock to keep the water in!

Have to be careful at hythe cause when the tide starts going out it goes out fast nearly to the end of the pier. AndyB is the one to talk to regarding the tides at hythe.
