Believe me, he was going like stink after lunch !
But rem, he dont have much touching the water ! Its basically a flying carpet with a couple of tubes, and he wasn't scared of giving it hell ! Every time I saw him, he was always smiling and not scared of giving it hell ! The thing turned on a sixpence once he got it set up a bit better. However, once us lot gave it some stick, he was left behind in straight line speed, but hey, 9HP engine and a carpet aint really streamlined for speed !
I have seen many guys, and galls fishing from inflatable canoes/kayaks, and you can go to hell ! I would however, chuck one of those in the back of my car with the 2.5hp get me home engine, and fish in Poole Harbour !

I prefer to think of it as ballast. Better for rough conditions.

I had a load of unnecessary kit in dry bags up in the bow. If I streamline the kit I bring, and move it further aft (which will raise the bow and reduce the wetted area even more) I am confident I can hit 20 kts or more. When Paul was helming the Takacat and I was running alongside in his mercury rib, I was surprised at how little of the Takacat was actually in the water when on the plane. The front two thirds of the vessel was totally clear of the water.
