Just found these beasties online. Not cheap but nor is your drone. Will probably get a set of these myself. :clappy :drive

Good idea I think I'll get some for my phantom. I've always been a bit hesitant about flying over water. But that is the main reason I got the drone in the first place. To take videos of us on the boat. These would give that bit more confidence to take it out

I'm about to test out the DJi refresh i purchased with my drone... :help
I had somewhat of an incident whilst away on the last bank holiday. The wind got up a little too much, the drone was just in sight, i made the mistake of looking at the screen when the high wind alarm went off rather than watching the drone.. That was it then, i couldnt see the drone and all the views were just field on fpv :busted
In that scenario, Just one option, hit return to home.
I did just that, and the drone returned, via a tree  :shame

Still, at least i have the drone :pump
Hopefully the DJi refresh will do as its supposed to and repair/replace the drone foc. :Confused

Oops!
Rule 1: never take your eyes off the darned thing!
At least it had return to home.
I used to have a V tailed quad I designed and built, but one of the motor stopped in flight and it crashed, turning a quad copter into a tricopter and a unicopter! 🥺😫
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Have a look at the Litchi App Martin. I've been using it for a couple of months now. Awesome.......... Programe it at home on your pc, confirm the heights if you want via google earth and let it go. That Farnham Castle vid I put on you tube and here was programmed at home and it flew itself doing exactly what I told it to do and when, ie height changes/camera angles etc......... all on its own. The godsend of it all........... it will always finish the mission. Utterly brilliant

That means it will always come home as long as the end of the mission was back to you of course or whatever option you selected when setting it up. eg..... Hover / RTH / Back to waypoint 1 or even land. Or.......... you fly the mission but control the camera and angles/views yourself. There is loads of info on youtube about the app and I'm very impressed with it. I'm dabbling with doing a day and night video side by side of the exact same route at the moment. The only issue I have is the weather as Dave will be affected by the wind and take a different route possibly, ie sharper or earlier turns and the like. ohyeh :thumbsup

Also......... you still have all the fail-safes that you have now........ Low Battery / smart return to home / and not so smart via a tree :sarky :Confused :thud

One final point......... You don't need a signal to the drone either. It just flies the mission you told it to. It feels a bit weird and scary but you get used to it. Give us a shout if you need more info :chat :cheers

It costs £21.99 I think is what I paid for it. I was happy to pay that just for the "auto-record" option. The amount of times I've sent Dave out and forgot to hit the record button. As soon as the home point is recorded it starts to record. It then lifts off and cracks on with the mission you set it :thud :LMT

The weather was almost perfect, no wind (ish) and this was as close as I could get it me thinks.

It was the exact same flight using the Litchi app at different times. The only difference is a slight weather change, ie wind but still minimal
Flights were 3 hours apart :thumbsup ohyeh

Guys - just so you are aware: there are a whole bunch of rules set down by the caa and the BMFA (the group which represents model flying (including drones) in the uk) regarding how and where they should be flown - not within 50m of any person or building, not over 400ft and automated (waypoint) flying is not encouraged. There are a whole bunch of other things including remaining within line of sight at all times.
All these things have been brought in because of morons doing stupid things, like overflying a sports area during a football match or flying into the side of buildings.

I’m not telling you to stop what you are doing, or trying to be a kill-joy. Just be prepared if someone approaches you about it.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Cheers Chris, everything is available via the drone code page, I think most of the dji gear actually alerts you now when you’re flying in unacceptable areas.
It’s a real shame morons have ruined it for everyone but it’s the same with everything these days.
Look at jet ski’s - say no more 😂
