Mitch

Looks like you might get a couple of hours on the water in Poole harbour in the afternoon.

My advise is as soon as you start to think "it's getting a bit choppy", head straight back to the slipway and recover the boat. It's always much better to "be standing on the slipway wishing you had stayed out on the water" than being "on the water wishing you were back at the slipway".

Have fun and take lots of photos for us

Mitch wrote:Thanks for that Paul, I like that site it gives a lot of information, going by that 4knts with gusts up to 9 seems ok & the air temp is pretty fair so I’ll be ordering the worm tomorrow & I can check out the bow dodger & chart plotter/fish finder at the same time + I want to get a couple of more hours on the engine before it goes in for a service. Will try to get a few pics of all them flounder. Thinking about it I might take the beach casters with me just in case.

Got up this morning & the wind speed had doubled & the gusts over 12mph, perhaps a couple of hours without rain so phoned me mate & we decided to call it off cause it is a long round trip of about 5hrs. Never mind, we do live in Britain I suppose, so I just sit in doors looking out of the window, twiddling me thumbs & sulking.
Thanks all for the forecasts.

It’s much better to be on shore “wishing you were on the water” than being on the water “wishing you were on the shore”

With sibs I work on the basis that Beaufort scale F0 to F3 is ideal (that’s basically wind speed in kts in single figures).

Do watch out for “wind over tide” though as that will make the sea state / waves much bigger than “wind with tide”.

The other thing I don’t like for my leisure boating is rain. When I’m teaching or working as a charter skipper I have to go out in any weather (unless it’s so windy it would be unsafe).

So now on days when I’m doing it for fun, rather than to earn my wages, if it’s raining I’ll cancel the outing.

Just took a quick look and it would’ve been a very damp miserable day out on the water

How very true Chris.
I don't mind up to F4 if it's just for fishing especially if it's in somewhere like poole harbour & if it's raining all the time it's not very pleasant even when your wrapped up so I think we made the right decision today & just look forward to better times.
