I believe the Garmin G2 maps are pretty good. I think that's what's on my Garmin 45dv and I've been very happy with that.

I think the navionics you have to download onto it separately. If you two are happy with the g2 maps then I think they would be good enough for me.

I have heard that the Garmin STRIKER 5cv Fishfinder with ClearVu Scanning Sonar Transducer is a fish finder only with GPS to mark waypoints and does not come with any mapping as it is not a chartplotter.

thanks for that acidcloud, I have checked them out & your right its a chartplotter.
Matt yes the 45dv is what I want but the screens a bit small for geriatrics so i'm gonna get the 55dv so I can see the screen better, it's a couple hundred more but the wife said she'd be happier if I can find my way back from where ever.
cheers everyone

I've not found the screen size of the 45dv a problem, and I'm an oldie :)

Go and see one running in a shop in demo mode before you spend too much money.

So finally decided on the Garmin 55dv & a GT20 transducer which I got for a really good price inc postage, it’s now on its way but I’ve been told by the wife that I can’t have it till Christmas Day.
