I'm with you there Martin on being a cheap skate (being Scottish).
Both my kids got Ipads.
Doubt they'd allow me to borrow them tho
I could just carry a dry cloth to sort out the issues I had with my Android phone plotter this year when my mitts were wet.
I used to use a Tesco Hudl in a waterproof case strapped down to a tablet stand running MX Mariner.
I'm still undecided whether to continue with my current set up or change to a combo set up.

Sounder / Plotter combo

Garmin 45dv is another good entry level plotter / fish finder.

But like Martin, & your current setup Kaman, on the Sib I use either a phone or tablet loaded with Navionics (iOS and Android) or MX Mariner (Android).

A dedicated plotter will be more waterproof, more shockproof, and have a screen that's easier to read in sunlight.

I use Cactus when buying marine electronics. Their prices are pretty competitive

Get the biggest screen you can afford/fit if you are getting a combination unit. I've got the Lowrance Elite TI7, a good piece of kit, but I'd like the 9 inch version.

I just upgraded to the dragonfly 5 pro and love it, running Navionics silver that came with it, not as complete as navionics+ on my phone but plenty good enough. You can upgrade the navionics from silver to gold for the 5 pro at a price f £100 if needed :thumbsup

Cheers for the input guys.
Plenty food for thought
I'm very much tempted by the Lowrance Hook 5 that Jeff posted the link for - seems like a good buy.
I saw it last night when I was perusing the Internet as well .
I'll raise the subject with her indoors later.
I think it's the least she can get me for all my sterling house husbandery  :Boxsmile

its the best price ive seen for a five inch screen but dont know anything about the C maps might be worth looking to make sure they are what you need or happy with.
