It was her first visit to the bay, although we'd stayed on a site near Oban some years ago. She loved the place - couldn't persuade her to come out on the water but she was able to watch the scenery and the activities on the very busy beach, as well as doing some walking.

Mind you it all changed on the Wednesday, when we were leaving anyway - constant rain, low cloud - what we Scots call dreich!

Vitamin Sea - love it! :thumbsup

:cheers
To be fair Roger, the whole of the country pretty much is getting the same weather :whistle But yep its phishing it down as I type this from a not so sunny Oban :whistle

You're quite right, Paul - we stopped in Killin on the Wednesday night and it followed us there, then on back to Fife on Thursday! :no

Yesterday, we had a lovely sunny spell here but I could see the grey front coming along the Forth from the bridges towards our apartment overlooking Pettycur bay. Within minutes, it was chucking it down like a waterfall on the windows.

I don't envy the weather forecasters trying to get it right when it can change so quickly. :LMT

I hope you saved me some decent weather for August? I'm staying on Loch Leven at Caolasnacon 6th to 17th. Any tips for the waters around there. My first trip in the area as I normally go further north to Ardmair Point.
I'm not really a Hobbit, just look like one. Real name is "Andy".

Not too much to worry about on loch leven, there's a narrow channel around half way up, which is deep enough and doesn't create any issues, the islands in the middle of the loch near Glen Coe sailing club are a bit shallow in places so best not try to go between them, And under the bridge gets tidal race and in the right conditions large standing waves

I'm staying at the skinny bit half way up on the campsite there but I hope to be venturing up to Fort William and down to Lismore too. What's Loch Linnhe like Paul B? :star :yay

Hi, Andy

I had looked at Caolasnacon and had that as a backup. The Highfields site along from Tralee Bay was a 5-van club location until a couple of years ago, so has no facilities apart from fresh water and chemical disposal. However, now that TB own it they have installed several luxury 'glamping' pods and at the end of this season will be converting the former rally field into a full blown tourer site, with toilet and shower block, etc.
That's why we only stayed 3 nights, which is as much as MrsB will do without a proper shower! According to the web, Caolasnacon has got showers but I gather from reviews they're fairly basic, so we ended up at the Club site in Killin, which as with all club sites had immaculately clean, heated toilet & shower blocks, which we made good use of.

So I'd be interested in your feedback on Caolasnacon once you've been, both in relation to ease of boat launch and onsite- facilities.

:cheers

Hi Andy. Loch Linnhe is fine on a good day, but again it's a very large open piece of water so can blow up quite quickly, and there's not too many places you can pop in and hide if it turns rough, the Corran narrows have tidal race and very fast flowing water where the ferry runs from, so a bit of care needs to be taken and again down at the very bottom of lismore near the light house has a tidal race as well, Care also needs to be taken around castle Stalker area as it's very shallow on the inside of Shuna island with lots of rocks on either side of the channel out towards Lismore, not too sure on the run up towards Fort William as I've never done it before as I see it as being a rather boring run up besides the A82
