Brought Ferry, Dundee

Post by Dobro2407 » 06 Jul 2017, 14:52

This is a really useable slipway. It is best avoided at anything near low tide as the entire basin dries out. Anything more than a third of the tide is fine. Of late it has become a little slippery due to green slimy stuff (algae?) on the lower end. Once in the water there are quite a few rings to tie up to. Across the harbour is Broughty castle and next door, so to speak, is the RNLI station.
This is a good place for a trip upriver to Perth or across the Tay to St Andrews.
One of the largest pods of bottlenose dolphins lives here and they are regularly sighted. The odd Minkie whale has been seen from time to time.
The Tay is noticeable for large shifting sandbars. Take care. You can sometimes see seals hauled out on them and apparently there is an annual cricket match on one.
The next really useful slip going North isn't until Stonehaven, and you have to pay for that one. Broughty is, of course, free.
Broughty Ferry can be an absolute sod for parking and it's not unusual at peak times to get thoughtless people, known to the boating fraternity as 'useless wankers', taking up the spaces reserved for cars and trailers. Usually there is a large space for manoevering and parking.
Great slip. See you there.
