Hi all
Just as a little introduction. I live in Jersey and don't have any storage space for a boat so the F-RIB was a no brainer for me after seeing it at the Jersey Boat Show. I've gone for the F-RIB 360 and teamed it up with a short shaft Mariner 25hp 2stroke :o
Haven't been on the water in a long time, since 2009 but am confident in my experience as an ex Landing Craft Coxswain in the Royal Marines. That said I am a little rusty but as I do bits and bobs it all starts coming back to me.
I have the perfect slip to launch from, only 100m walk from home but it is very rocky for up to a mile out, so with that in mind can anybody recommend a decent sonar? I was spoilt in the RM as we could literally navigate through gullies and shallows by looking at the super duper Raymarine setup we had on the ORC. I understand they are known as fish finders which is new to me as we were never looking for fish. Ideally looking for a portable/handheld gps/plotter/sonar which is accurate. I am an Apple sucker (use iPhone,iPad etc) if anyone can recommend software instead of buying new devices? But either or whatever seems to work best for portable boat users.

Hello again Adam, cracking introduction :TY
That F-Rib will bloody fly with that amount of power :o

Sounds like you have the perfect boating life on your doorstep there. :drive

The sonar you refer to, I use a system on my iOS devices, navionics maps give you a pretty good idea of what's around, but if you go sonar, the detail is unbelievable, so long as that area has been navigated and shared by other sonar users on navionics. I use the vexilar fish finder system with a transducer that gives live detail of what's below you, once you've covered the poorly charted area, you then have an in depth chart, connect to navionics website, upload the chart and everyone gets to see your in depth chart.
:stop Don't make the mistake I did.. And get :bananasex
The device your viewing the data on MUST be a cellular device, if you have just a wifi iPad, your location will NOT show up!
Also, the iPad maps at £45 ish will not transfer to your phone like normal iOS apps, so buy the correct maps for your device. :no
I did a small page on here whilst I was thinking about buying the system, :Link -> http://f-ribsandsibs.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=239 have a read through :D

Hope I've explained that well enough :thud
Pm me if you need any details :D

Martin :cheers

Lives on Jersey, slip 100 metres away, F-Rib, 25hp OB............life don't get much better unless you also married a rich nymphomaniac that owns a pub

Paul

Yes the 25hp 2T is quite something with the F-RIB 360, similar performance I can remember to the 4 man inflatable Zodiak we use to use in the RM that had a 50hp 2T on it! Exciting/scary/thrilling/dangerous/awesome/fun are a few of the pleasant words I can use to describe my setup!

Didn't marry a rich women or a pub owner, location is ace but I did grow up miles from the sea in Bedfordshire so now making up for it!
