If you could find enough people, this might be suitable.
Hell even if you can't, it's the same price as a water softener... plus you then get to keep the container! 1000 L should keep you going for a while, you won't need to worry about topping up!

if 1000L is too much, then a few 25L containers for £14 each seems reasonable.

:? Alternatively if your that concerned buy yourself a 3 stage reverse osmosis kit and fill your own tubs lol.'
A hell of a lot cheaper than buying water and certainly saves carrying it.
An if none of that floats your boat, move to Yorkshire, because Our water , like everything else up Yorkshire is far superior

I AM a Yorkshire boy, Sheffield born and bred but I saw the light as there are no cod to be caught there and so moved to Lincolnshire nearly 20 years ago. Would I move back, would I hell ------------------ clean air, country life, quiet surroundings and the sea ( Humber ) 1.25 miles from my cottage. I will put up with the hard water Martin. :star

I can buy the demin water at trade which is a hell of lot cheaper than the prices quoted, the filter however is really good and used to have one installed on my Koi pond at my old house but they are bloody expensive from what I recall.

I agree that corrosion is not good however have you discovered how the water has entered the combustion chambers to cause the pistons/rings to seize in their bores :?:
The spark plug washers should've made a seal (unless the plugs were loose) so I'd imagine water has ingressed via the bore/block to crankcase gasket or am I wrong :?:

I`m not sure yet Paul but water could well have made it past the spark plug seal as the seats for the seals as you can see are like the rocky mountains,I will get round to attempting to separate the block so i can see what has caused the seizure but as you can appreciate separating the block with pistons stuck in the bores wont be easy. When i do manage to separate it i will take a few more pictures. I would love to find that the bores are not damaged because i can get the head machined and put new pistons rings big and little end bearings in it and new seals all round and like i previously stated the work would be uneconomical due to the age of the outboard but i like to do projects like this plus i would know that i had got a motor that i could then trust. I`m dead old fashioned and i`m not a part of the throw away train of thought. All the best....Paul.

I have read your thoughts and what you intend to do with this engine and really feel useless as I can't do anything like this, just do not understand what has to be done, good on yer, wish I was able to play around like that.

Some of the others will know where your coming from, as I do..
Sometimes challenges have to be beaten, and as for the "I've built this" gives you a charge like no other.
I've never split an outboard yet myself, but as an ex mechanic I can get where your at.
That block needs splitting down and some deep investigation. Hopefully the bores will be just peachy :cheers
