F-rib Storage
Hi everyone, I'm new to this so please excuse the silly question..... I've read mixed reports on how to store F-ribs upright. Should it be on the transom, or the other on the way up where the hull sections join? Either way seems a little precarious to me, does anyone store their boat like this long term? Thanks in advance.

Re: F-rib Storage
As far as I can establish storage with launch wheels affixed is ok on the transom.
I had mine stood in the garage on the two faces but I did gave it sat on foam matting.
I'd just be gentle with it and I'm sure your choice will be fine

Re: F-rib Storage
Standing it on end shouldn't be a problem but I've always used a folded towel for padding between the hard surface and the fibreglass/folded PVC.
Don't go dragging the boat about as you'll scuff/chip the fibreglass or hole the PVC.

Re: F-rib Storage
Many thanks for your replies, foam padding it is then! Apologies for the tangent but seeing as you are both F-rib owners, have either of you experienced porpoising with your setups?

I don't seem to suffer porpoising.

Re: F-rib Storage
I hope your day out goes well!
It's not been a major problem, it's not quick enough to get itself in too much trouble....I'm going to try trimming the outboard and moving my not inconsiderable bulk around and see if that helps. Do you think that the relatively short length of the boat makes it more fussy?

Re: F-rib Storage
Yup without a doubt.
Need to get weight forward to get it to plane .
I've noticed that Sir Gurnard sits well forward in his Frib in the pics he has posted.

Re: F-rib Storage
Yup..I have the same boat and engine size as you ..however mine is very nippy for its size..easily planes and goes 16 mph ..which feels fast in a small boat..so I suspect something is wrong with your setup ?Bowline wrote:I hope your day out goes well!

Weight distribution is very important in any small boat..the F-Rib 275 needs all the weight up front. OB trim helps slightly but not as much..mine is on second hole out from transom... third hole and it can cavitate a bit in bigger seas.
Im 6ft tall and 190 lb ..and carry a fair bit of luggage..but I cant carry a bucket full of mackerel at the back or it wont come on the plane. Set yours up right and you should notice a big improvement. If not.. I suspect you need a smaller prop to get the engine reving right.
The F Rib 275 loves a F 4 wave ...and is very manoeuvrable at speed..photos taken by my brother
I store mine on its end..but not the transom end..there is too much PVC at that end to get trapped and damaged.. there is no PVC over the end away from the transom..so would recommend sitting it on that end.
Hope that helps some.

Re: F-rib Storage
Hi Gurnard/kaman and thank you for your wealth of info. I can see immediately that you sit further forward than I do. I would estimate that I sit inline with the oar locks and bang in the middle of the seat, but maybe more importantly you are leaning forward, which I cannot without a tiller extension.... Looks like I need to visit my local boat shop!! I did manage 15 knots the other day on flat water, but it porpoised quite a bit. I will try and match you setup and see what happens. Have you tried a lower pitch on your Yamaha?
