Re: Help
Hi Steve, welcome!
2 strokes are getting old and hard to find a good one, they are very light compared to their 4 stroke derivatives.
If you don’t mind mixing oil & petrol, don’t mind the noise but want a light motor, then a 2 stroke might be for you, though an 8hp motor on a 4m boat is not going to break any speed limits.
The four strokes are very quiet, reliable and very economical, they are much heavier than the 2 strokes.
I’ve heard of the big foot 9.9 but I have little knowledge of mariners/Mercs - I’m a Suzuki man I’m afraid.

Re: Help
Hi Steve and welcome.
Both those motors look decent value. Couple of observations.
The 8hp two stroke is a long shaft and not many sibs take those.
The 9.9hp is a ‘Big Foot’ so has a larger gearbox/prop and aimed more at heavier boats running at lower speeds. Not saying it won’t work on a sib, but just something to be aware of.
Both look in good nick though and fairly priced.
