Launching Wheels for the MOTS

Post by RONHAS » 17 Feb 2020, 13:19

After reading here a few posts related to launching wheels, a still have doubts about the size of the wheels I should buy.

MOTS is an F-Rib 360, and I do not know if the 26cm diameter wheels are the best option for it or if I should buy instead the 37cm diameter ones.

I am talking about the Osculati wheels on these links:

I've read here some comments from philpot here viewtopic.php?f=20&t=220 saying that he prefers the big ones.

What's your opinion? the small ones would be enough?

Thanks in advance

On advise from others, I bought the short version of the ones vailable in the uk, they worked brilliantly but didn't lift the boat enough to have the ouboard in full downward position without the skeg touching the floor. :no
I couldn't have altered the mounting points any lower so i opted to purchase the longer set of launch wheels also, Fitted them and hey presto, it lifted the boat perfectly, though the wheels now foul the outboard slightly on full lock...
Finding a happy medium is difficult.

Decision made! I'll buy the big ones: https://www.bottegadelmarinaio.com/arti ... -r-4736804
However I'll install them only after buying the motors (one Yamaha 6HP and a smaller 2.5HP as backup) in order to define the best position regarding to the steering angle of the motors.

Martin, thanks for your opinion :thumbsup

General wisdom is to fit the wheels as wide as possible to still allow them to come up without fouling the tubes & as low as possible ( but not to stick out the bottom of the hull when raised ! ) to give you the most clearance possible !

Narrow track leads to lots of wobbling and potential scraping of tubes on the ground ( don't ask ! ) :( .

I think you’ll struggle to have flip up style transom wheels and mount an auxiliary motor. At the very least one wheel will need to be removed/unclipped rather than flipped up when underway. Also make sure fixed bracket does not clash with auxiliary motor saddle.

harrison, the auxiliary motor is to be putted on the transom panel only if the principal does not work. I'll not have both motors on the transom panel at the same time.... :)

When the 6HP is doing his job the 2.5HP will rest on the boat floor, helping to have some more weight at the bow ;-)

I've bought the Osculati wheels but unfortunately one of the pieces of it came with short dimension.
One is good with 7cm but the other one came 2mm shorter and it makes a lot of difference, because the good one allows me to do the T and the other one just bends but doesn't slide.
I would like to search on the internet where can I buy another one withe the right dimension but I don't know the name that it could have. Not even in Portuguese.... :shame
Can any one help me on this? thanks.

I think in English they're sometimes called drop nose pins, but not sure if that's the official name.
