Buying Boat + 90HP Mercury + Trailer [Photos inside]

Post by swat_75 » 12 Dec 2019, 21:55

Hi!

I'm interested in buying a rib boat with motor and trailer and I`ve been seeing some over the last months.
I have seen one and I'm highly interested in buying it.
However, I don`t have any experience with boats. I`ve read some articles about buying used boats but still, I would like to make sure that I will do a good deal.
Do you see anything that I should worry about?

That is one very scruffy boat!

The hull is in a right mess with bad ‘repairs’ all over.

Tubes have been painted/antifouled.

Has the engine got any service history? Especially water pump and gear oil being replaced?

Unless it is super cheap, walk away.

That has trouble written all over it.....

The only thing of any value is the engine.

The rest is scrap!

My gut feeling is that you should walk away.
The antifoul on the tubes is horrendous, the bow winch eye has been pulled right out and glassed back in by the look of it and the trailer doesn’t fit the boat properly.

If they are letting it go for next to nothing and you want a project then it might be ok, but I suspect that it might be hiding some horrors.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Hi!
Thank you for your replies.
The seller is asking 5000 USD.
I will do a test drive to see how the engine runs.

Did you mean to say $500?

If it really was $5,000. Then you are mad.
