You don’t get much of a journey if you go from Calshot to Newport (other than the sownbit down the river)
I would launch at Warsash - decent slip and a large car park.
My thinking is the river bit takes longer than you think …. so the 'Sea' bit can be shorter ?

Andy, we’ll be sure to give you a cheery wave as we pass by if you’re in trouble. Just watch out for any passing chain ferries (and the big buggers), as they seem to worry you.
:LMT Ill bring me 50 ton trawler then ! :yay

Portsmouth to Ryde sounds good - I would like to do Portsmouth with someone who knows what they are doing before I head that way on my own.
See , @harrison its not only me ! At least I know where I am going, that little bit of land, bump ouch !

Peter,

More sea, less river would get my vote. :thumbsup

I have no local knowledge but is Poole to IoW doable in a sib in favourable conditions?

We will go for the 9th March for this trip, with a fallback date of the 23rd if the weather proves unsuitable on the 9th.

The final decision on if we go ahead with the 9th, or postpone to the 23rd, will be made on the 6th or 7th March.

The crossing from Warsash to Cowes takes me 25 minutes then it’s about an hour on the river which, honestly, is a bit dull. I got half way up it and turned around last time.

If the conditions were spot on (and they would have to be) I would love to circumnavigate the Isle of Wight.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

If you pick your day... and wait for the 1 or 2 days a year it's 'right' you could do Poole to iow without it being an endurance feat.

In the ribs we did it on on Sunday it did get a bit dull.... and boring. There isn't much to see!

I was lucky enough to do an impromptu round the island from Poole I'm my 4m rib... didn't plan to but had the time, fuel, and calm water.

Been round in a 3.5m rib 25hp aswell..( it was ribcraft so not a standard 3.5m... and more fun than doing it with 500hp and 10m at the other end of the rib spectrum) .... so in a well set up sib on the right day it's doable.

Been round the back from Lymington in my bombard 380... ave that was a long way on a tiller.. .

Yup I'm up for another gathering :thumbsup either dates shouldn't be an issue :)

Ryde is a nice place to visit ..... you could also visit one of the nearby Forts
or
There's always a visit to the Needles with a visit to Yarmouth

Agreed Peter, the river stretch from Cowes to Newport is uninspiring hence why most turn back halfway and The Folly pub is so popular
Also agree the circumnavigation of the island would have to be an 'on the day decision' due to sea/weather conditions

Paul :cheers

I don't even make it to the folly
Either the Fountain at town quay or the Lifeboat at East Cowes Marina.

Think i should make an appearance with my 430, this sounds like the perfect outing.
That should fetch Martin down from t’north.
Would love to, I deffo can’t do the 9th tho, the Mrs is doing the London marathon that weekend.
Maybe the 23rd if you’re all out then, I’ve a lot going on at the moment trying to get ready to move house so this years going to be busy none boating I’m afraid :|
