Fishing setup

While waiting for the weather to be right so that we can undergo sea trials before finally taking the 50 ton trawler out to rape and pillage the sea depths, I have spent allot of time getting my gear together.

I have purchased, and sent back, quiet a few fishing rod holders, most being not suitable. I didnt want to screw things into seats, and I am not happy sticking stuff to tubes (One good bounce and I dont want to go fishing for my rod!)

Then I came across summit which might fit the bill, dunno if anyone else has used em ?

I bought one to try, and it seems to be very well made and screws up strong. You can position the rods almost anywhere, without the need to screw holes in everything. The only down side I can see is they might need a bit of pipe insulation wrapped with tape to pack out the rod supports a bit, if using a very thin rod butt !

Ill try em out and let you know whats going on.

Took about 8 days to get here, so not bad for a Chinese product sent from the UK. I'll prob get some more

I’m not sure about that surfer, it seems to me your relying on the reel between the 2 uprights to stop the rod disappearing over the side & if that’s right & you catch a big fish (which although not very often but can happen) is that front upright strong enough to withstand a fish pulling on the rod & a heavy reel smashing into it, maybe I’m looking at it all wrong

These are even worse, they just pull out. They only just work by being in the upright position, and relying on a bend in the rod, or a small fish.

I use Railblaza accessories, as do a few others on here.
Some use Scotty .. it’s a bit vhs/Betamax but whichever suits your needs as they both have great reviews.

I’ve got a pair of fladens just like that one, put it in the base, turn it 180 degrees & push down & it’s locked into position but the tolerances on the splines are nowhere as good as railblaza but I only paid £18 for 2.

Remember, we have something called a "drag" setting.

Same as on the beach, if you get pulled by a biggy, and you dont set the drag right, its all in the sea and on its way to France.

True enough, but if your using a fixed spool it’s a bitch too apply more drag when the lines reeling off.

I’ve got a pair of fladens

Mitch has a lovely pair of Fladens (apparently) And I've got some lush Scotty rocket launchers. My rod goes in and out very easily and hardly touches the sides and they are deep so it can't be pinched by the "biggies" (that's gotta hurt) but I do clip an elasticated leash on them when I go really fast.
