Eva foam flooring

Post by PeterM » 06 Nov 2018, 15:02

Not sure where to put this.. so here goes....

Been wanting to to spruce up the little RIB for a while and ended up speaking to Tye Conway re EVA foam decking. Decided to go for a modern grey look as 'teak' clearly wouldn't be teak. Full credit to Tye for service and advice.

I templated the deck using thin plastic sheet , then wrote all over it so it all made some kind of sense , followed the advice to use a crayon to 'rub' the non slip areas to give a good steer to Tye on the edges etc , dropped the templates in to him and a week later got a call to say all ready.

I ended doing 2 boats as the effect was so good !

He dropped them off to me with some really helpful advice on fitting etc and last night I went for it armed with a heater and hair dryer ( boating essentials? ) . I found that actually my seats aren't bolted straight to the hull , so a little jigging to try and make things look straight.

If any is looking for an simple but really effective way to spruce up their deck I'd 100% say to give Tye a call at Elite teak ( he does 'real' decks as well as the synthetic stuff and clearly has endless experience in it.

Hopefully the pics give some impression & if anyone wants to message me for direct feedback or message Tye direct I'm sure it would be fine ..

Suffice to say for a fraction of the cost of teak or synthetic teak my little boat looks that much more modern and feels nice and soft under foot while being way less slippery when wet … Whats not to like ! :)

I dont think this would work on a rolled air deck, but for aluminium section floors I can't see why it wouldn't.

Hopefully the pics make some sense but I'm not sure what order they'll come out in....

Very cool, I like it!

Been wanting something like that for a helm pad. Will have to look into it.
Wrote a note said, 'back in a minute'. Bought a boat and I sailed off in it.

thanks all. It does feel nice and soft under foot and I have even seen pictures of an F-rib with it fitted . Hopefully less slippery with a bit of sound deadening off the hull at the same time.

While the stuff I have is think I'm not sure its not the same stuff fitted to Takacats flat deck - just thinner to allow rolling / bending .

How did you order it? I've reached out to them on the US side but it's a strange contact form. I can't find any sort of pricing. Hopefully it's cheaper than SeaDek.

There must be a US supplier of this stuff ? Its essentially the same as fitted to every seadoo/ Yamaha Jetski and lots of lake stuff, but here in the UK I emailed Tye Conway - the Owner of the company -tye@eliteteak.co.uk
http://www.wasserdek.co.uk/

I have been told its cheaper than the Seadek stuff who were about £180 m2.

I cant see why you cant do a template - send it to him in the UK , he sets it and chats through it over the phone and then can post it out to anywhere in the world .. if you wanted to.

And I found it for the FRIB with it fitted :) in the pic

Great job, looking very posh now Peter, does this mean I can’t walk across your deck anymore unless I take my boots off :Confused
