max photo sizes

Post by blootac » 15 Apr 2015, 22:42

I'm not sure how much of a pita this is but can we either up the max size of a photo or find someway of auto shrinking them on the server?
I've got quite a few nice pics from last weekend but shrinking them on my phone is a right pain! (I'm very lazy)

Hi blootac,
What sizes are your pictures coming in at please?
We'll look into it for you, I can post direct from an iPhone/iPad /desktop without problem and thought we'd covered most eventualities.

Thanks for requesting

mine are coming in at 1920x1080 px ~ 500KB for front facing camera
and 5312x2988 px between 4 and 8MB for rear facing camera, more often than not <4MB.

The rear facing pictures might be a bit big to store as-is, do you have the facilities to thumbnail them? if not, no problem, I just need to stop being so lazy!

:D

Saying that I've found an app that will do it simply enough if it does turn out to be an effort. :)

If you can install the app for now blootac pls, that would be a better option I think.
I know Philpot has taken time to upload his images to photo bucket and link to us, this saves storage on our server. As with most packages, storage and bandwidth come at a price.
We have no site sponsors / donations yet, so whilst we wouldn't allow the site to suffer, Admin funding has to be well thought through.

Many Thanks,
The team :Hats

I was having a look around the specs of your Samsung, Blootac.
It appears you can alter the quality of your photos to be taken.
If your taking pictures on the full setting, your using masses of storage on your phone. Unless your thinking of blowing up all your photo's to wall size images, you may be as well dropping the setting to a lower level.
Anything viewable on the web tends to come out fine around the 3 or 4 mega pix.

How did you get on with the app?

Regards

I generally do take at full res, always better to have the extra quality than to have an amazing setup but end up pixelated!

The app wasn't too bad and is certainly a lot easier and quicker than using the built in methods. I'll carry on with it.
