Honwave launch wheel modifacation

Just in from the shed and tonight I've been trying to take the play oit of the launch wheels and trying a wee modification

Looking good, will be interesting to see if that keeps the play out of them after some use, like the idea of twin wheels too! Will watch with interest

Dont think it will tbh jim but its worth a go ,having looked at your photos other night of your new wheels i think mine are the heavy duty ones ,sockets certainly look the same but the legs themselves are pretty thin walled and a poor fit in sockets so all tension goes on the pins ,thats why i was looking for wall thickness of tubing to compare

I hope not lol , when the wheels dig into gravell or sand it puts a fair bit stress on as well , thats my theory anyway lol; will get axles turned and try it , 2 pins puts it back way it was , main problem i can see is reduced turning space for engine but can soon take wheels off

The problem I found with the play in the tubes was that the pins were harder than the tubes so the holes in the tubes wore then went oval, I think I fixed that by putting brass pins in so that the pins wear rather than the tubes. Like the twin wheel arrangement, hope it works.

Thats a good idea with the brass pins Mitch,i take it they were hard enough not to shear? I think I'll try that as need to make pins anyway ,cheers
I agree with your theory and think this will happen with these wheels ,The pin will always wear the tube first but brass pins may well be a solution and at 8mm diameter dont think they will shear.Im off to e bay lol

Not sure about the shearing jake, at the moment they're a good fit but once they start wearing , maybe, make up 2 sets just in case, I think depending on how much you use the wheels you will probably have to change them maybe every year.

Honwave may make good sibs but those "planing pads" are a right pain in the arse!!

if i was looking for a new sib, honwave would be struck off the list just because of those....
