My 9hp planes my Honwave with 2 adults in, no problem. I've had the family in with the 15hp and again, it planes no problem..
I'm prob being a bit thick here, but does your Honwave not have a displacement hull of some variety ?
It should plane without any problem with you and your son in running 15hp + :Confused
Hi Martin my boat planes perfect as it is now with the 9.8hp on but I was saying that I was thinking if I went and got to heavy an engine like a 4 stroke 25 or 30hp it might not plane but was looking for feedback on it to see if anyone else was running these heavier engines.
But I'm pretty much decided that it'll be 20hp but as I said its between Honda and Suzuki now. :scratch
Going to order an engine next week! :D :cheers
Excited much!!!

5 years old and not 1 problem.
It's serviced as required and starts first pull.
It's very light on the juice and shoves my Honwave 3.5ae along fast enuf to put a smile on my face.
It's 52kg which is pretty awkward to man handle yourself.
I would buy another tohatsu again in a heart beat.
Between the Honda and Suzuki tho I would go with the latter all day long.
I think they are cracking little engines.
I'm not a Honda fan after a few bad experiences but don't let that put you off.
Hi Kaman! It a great engine the Tohatsu. I've never had any trouble from mine but its a weight thing I'm looking at now as I'm not getting any younger :( . The Tohatsu 20hp was one of the engines I had on the short list but. I'm going to be adventurous and try a change. Choice to be made over weekend I hope and order made early next week!

Hahahaha :sarky ;-) :D :D
It's swinging the other way at the minute but I've given myself the weekend to change my mind as the Honda is only 2.5 kg heavier at 46.5kg every pound a prisoner and all that.
Trying to save money to be cheeky and buy myself a new seat with storage also if my wife lets me. Lol

Bit to far away to go and save a pound as I'm up north of Inverness in Culbokie.
That's the price we have to pay being so far north. Would be good to have shows like that up here to but never happens. :(

I've a Twatsu 20hp and it's a lovely motor BUT yup it's a wee bit heavy for this old fossil these days at 52kg :(
The Suzi is the lightest in it's class and a cracking motor 8-) together with Suzuki Marine dropping its price from £3300 to an advertised price of £2645 it gets even better ;-)
BTW I also read about Honda and Tohatsu 'teaming up' this year producing the same OB under their own names but again the Suzi still wins the weight battle currently :Boxsmile
Just my thoughts mate

Hi Paul
After reading your post and doing a bit of searching on the web my head is turned to Suzuki. It looks like I was priced on the old price! :o A few phone calls to be made tomorrow to get a better price I hope. Now very keen on getting my hands on a new Suzuki to try them out.
Update to follow!
Thanks Paul that was good of you to comment, it helped me loads. :cheers :D

Mark

Glad you found this info helpful as I noticed the price drop 3-4 months ago however the dealerships seem slow in adjusting their prices :whistle :wedgie :no
