Launch Chester

Post by Sib-2022 » 30 Jul 2022, 13:28

Hi all
Am new too boating and bought a bombard 2.9m sib with a Yamaha 4hp outboard.
I bought it for a bit of fun for me and my 2 kids
I went to the river Dee yesterday but river warden said I needed a licence which I never new .
So came and the council website is so confusing, launching fee £20 sounds a bit steep for just a couple of hours of fun plus insurance.
Am not a skin flint but it all mounts up .
I take it any boat with an outboard on in a river has a fee plus insurance?
But I can go on the sea free with the right gear , like life jacket, vhf radio etc . But I must admit the sea scares me to be honest 🙈

Hi Paul,
When you use your craft on canals or rivers, you have to register with the https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-th ... -your-boat

Insurance is not compulsory as far as i know, but you'll wish you'd paid it if you were to injur a third party.
Sea isn't scary when you have ther right gear and a little experience, Not something i'd be wanting to do in a boat that size though. Great for a little play in bays, but i personally wouldn't want to go out too far in a small boat and little outboard.

Martin :cheers
