PB level 2

Post by sonny1 » 01 May 2021, 08:04

hi all ,for anyone interested i took the power boat level 2 course with @Dom and @Sarah at dorset marine .its a two day course and it was tremendous fun and very interesting ,very well put together and well presented . the first day flew by and it was 5,30 pm before i knew it . i cannot speak highly enough of the course and the people who ran it . for anyone toying with the thought of taking it ,do it . you will get a qualification that is recognised globally and which ,apparently , is being asked for more and more . i understand that some slipways will insist you have that level of experience before you can launch. there were many aspects to the course which included , navigation, bouyage, chart reading and many other drills . massive thanks to dom for arranging parking for trailer and van and overnight safe mooring for my boat. and of course thanks to the forum for a huge discount on the course fee. i know for certain i am now a much safer boater to myself and others :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Congratulations and well done. We're so pleased you enjoyed it and more importantly that you feel safer as a result. Thank you so much for your comments - Dom and I genuinely want people to enjoy their boating and so its lovely to get feedback. Any questions as the boating continues do please ask. Stay safe out there and we hope to see you afloat again soon.

I want to lend my support to the PB2. it truly is a great thing to do. I did mine at Mylor on Cornwall. As I have some experience I did it as a 1to1 1day. sort of a bespoke tailored course assessing what I knew and what I could do and spending time working of an deficits. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and money well spent.
I have also done my CEVNI online and am poised to apply for my ICC with inland waters entitlement.
I will certainly be looking to do some more RYA courses in the future, probably safety boat next as my son has just taken up sailing!

hi there @Andy wheeldon UK you said you did your pb2 in one day as you had 1to 1 tuition ,did you actually get your certificate with the passport photo on . i also plumped for 1 to 1 but did the full two days . and to be honest would love to do it again . its absolutley brilliant having someone who knows what they are doing taking time to explain the why and where and when of it all . really good fun and informative . i urge anybody who is thinking about it to bite the bullet and do it .

Yes full monty in one day. Mylor were offering 2day or a half day assessment for those with experience.. We had a little discussion about my experience and needs and they offered me to do it in a day.. It was really really excellent.
To go further and take more courses I need experience on some bigger boats/ribs though..
One way may be to book more instruction with them.. Seems cheaper than chartering a RIB for the day as far as I can see.. And you get an instructor!

hi again @Andy W ,,,yes point taken about level of experience and some not needing as much time as others to complete the course . by the way what do you currently float about on ? . i took the course on my own boat which reduced the cost . now im a bit confused , on your first post your profile says "andy wheeldon uk ,joined may 6th ,2021" your second post says " andy w joined july 19th 2017 . are these both the same person ?

I thought I had joined some time ago.. But tried to reset my password. I wasn't able to as my email wasn't recognised. I figured I was mistaken and set up new membership..
