Takacat 340 trip in the solent

Post by PeterM » 24 Jun 2020, 10:03

took the opportunity to run the new to me takacat from lymington to cowes along side another 340.

Absolutely great day abs one of the few when the ride was right the wind was right the sun was out and all went to plan

Launched about 10.30 from lymington, an easy cruise to cowes . Stopped for a baguette and coffee and cruise back while going into keyhaven for a look about .

Washing and drying off today and the postie just delivered the new OCA cover to keep the engine cowl scratch free :).... and it's the hottest day off the year today. What's not to like :)

That looks amazing!!
I'm new to this & can not wait to get out on the water.
With regards to slips as I am very new to this is there anything I should be aware of or do?
For ref I have a Seago Air deck & keal with a 3.5hp.

Welcome Chappie,
Probably best to start a new post with a list of questions and we can go through and answer to the best of our ability.

Martin :cheers

Sounds like a great day out on the cat’s @PeterM :thumbsup

Interested if you noticed any handling differences/traits/benefits/lift etc. between yours and Mr Moody’s current Concorde style ‘droop snoot’ pointy ends?

Both boats behaved exactly the same way.

Interestingly mine was a tiny little bit quicker in acceleration and top end.. Despite both running 9.9hp. Mine suzuki 4 stroke with a 9inch pitch prop... Chris tohatsu 2 stroke with I think a cupped 7.5 pitch.....

I am fitting an 8 inch to kine in coming weeks to see what impact that has... As I just feel the engine isn't revving all the way with the current prop ( purely based on engine tone and experience!)

Did You have any ventilation problems?
