Aux mount
Hi guys,
I was thinking of a way to mount the little 2hp auxiliary engine I take out with me on my T38.
I thought of carrying some 3x2, and if and when needed bolting it through one of the bench seats so it protrude out past the tubes and the prop would be clear of the tubes.
This would only be to get to safety if needed. I would tilt the main engine up, clamp on my single bracket aux and hopefully motor back in slowly.
What do you think, would this work?
Would the forces be too much?

Re: Aux mount
Reckon it’ll rip ya seat off and end up in Davy Jones Locker...even with 2hp.
Outrigger solution been done before, although bolted off transom.

Re: Aux mount
Would not be any better to switch to electric motor instead a lightweight petrol one ?
The benefits to have an electric one are worth to think about too, for example, electric one is lighter then you have a heavy weight battery but is not only to be use for an outboard also can be use for fish finder or any other whatever devices need electricity to run also would be much easier to set it up without any danger to get damage on your boat.

Re: Aux mount
I think (but I am unsure) that the kind of electric motor which you could run from a portable battery would be well under 1hp. Fine for a bit of slow trolling but possibly not up to pushing you home if you main motor dies.
Personally I don’t have an aux on my T38, but intend to boat in well populated areas and I have a radio. If I was soloing in a rural area (such as the west cost of scotland) then would want an aux.

Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I guess the consensus is that it won’t take the stress.

Re: Aux mount
If I felt the need to fit an auxiliary to our T38 my initial thoughts would be one of the removable slide in transom bracket types. The rear offset provided will enable motor to clear the trim tabs and fabric splash webs. Obviously would need coordinating with towing eyes and transom wheels if fitted and preclude running them raised.

Re: Aux mount
@kaman actually created a great aux mount for his Honwave T38ie way after the T35, I think the first T38ie version was a little scary as it was basically mounted to the honwave launch wheel socket, but later updates it got strengthened and braced from the transom.
Not quite sure on the finished product but it was certainly moving in the right direction for him. Martin
