Towing a ringo

Folding Ribs or F-Ribs are a great way of obtaining a hard hull boat but having the flexibility of a sib.
F-Ribs have the 3 or 4 section articulating hinge joint that allow the boat to fold up for ease of storage & transportation. A great idea opening up a whole new world of opportunity.

Towing a ringo

Post by JFISHER » 20 Apr 2020, 21:02

Hi all,
Need some advice.
Got a 4.5m quicksilver frib solid wooden transom, wooden slot together floor and blow up keel. It seems a pretty sturdy boat It’s rated for a 25hp and 8people
Has anyone had any experience towing a ringo with anything like this. I’m running a 25hp 2stroke mariner.
Also what should I fix the ringo to the transom with ! Single tow point or double either side of transom :0 or something totally different.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks again
Jake

Hi Jake, you’ll have no trouble pulling a ringo with that set up. We’ve pulled ringo’s, knee and wakeboards with a 3.8m/20hp combo.

Hardware wise I’d be looking to fit a couple of M10 stainless eye bolts high and wide on the transom. Clip on a pulley bridle and job done.

Happy towing.

Where is a good place to buy towable toys? I've had a look around and found pretty slim pickings.

Would a 9.8 on a F-RIB 360 have enough pulling power for a 2 or 3 small person Airhead?

Pulling 2 or 3 on a ringo with 10hp?

Not a cat in hells chance of getting planing! Sorry.

However, pulling one kiddo on a two person ringo may be just possible on a good day with one up in the boat. Marginal though.

In my experience ringo’s take more power than say a kneeboard or even wakeboard, and the doughnut shape hardest of all to pull out the hole.

Something akin to the Airhead Slash 2 would, in my opinion, be the easiest style to pull, albeit with one aboard. A bonus is they are also steerable, adding to the fun factor.

Out of the 3 grandkids, I think that only one of them would be brave enough! She’s a proper little Bear Grills & she is only 5. Thanks for the advice.

Hi again,
Harrison, how long is that towing bridle ? Is it the 8ft one from boat world?

Many thanks again
