New radio for my 460

Post by Andy » 12 Oct 2019, 11:41

So, after recently spending some time in the Scottish Lochs, I noticed that my handheld radio was a little out of range, so I have just received a nice new and shiney white Cobra with GPS.

I have gone for a 7 feet nice shiny white antenna, and the mount will be replaced with a nice and shiny white tilting, rail mount, so this will live on the silver rail around my console out of the way on the right hand side. Still waiting for the aerial to turn up, but ill get into the shed tom and fit the radio (Flush mount it) !

One stage further to my Miami Vice Boat, now all I need is the huge bluetooth speaker to play their theme tune when leaving harbour ! ohyeh

Nice looking piece of kit there Andy, and in white to match your boat....will look very smart.

Reckon you’ll need a bit more than a flash sound system mind to take on Crocket & Tubbs fancy Scarab. :whistle

Hi
Yea, but the aerial that turned up, I was unable to remove from the free mount, so I had to order another from someone else, that had a 1" 14 turn fitting. This one is an 8 feet 2.4m but you can unscrew it into 2 x 4 feet if i want to, prob not.

I havent checked the radio works yet, cus from memory of my CB days (Good buddy !) you can damage the radio if it aint got an aerial fitted to it.

You have to secure the radio from behind, but I can only access one side, but that should be ok. I was going to run a small bead of soft white external window sealant, where it joins the console.

With abit of luck ill be testing out the doil fin on Tuesday at Felixstowe, see how good it gets. Calm day forecast and hopefully nobody about so can do a bit of fishing.
