Hi Matt and
to the forum.
Canals and rivers have way more rules than the sea, which doesn’t really have any (ok, so it does have rules but not the “you must register your boat, have a licence and insurance” type of rules)
Here is a link to the canals and rivers trust which should help.
https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-th ... at-licence
Insurance is easy enough and well worth getting - many of us use craftinsure.

Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Hi Matt,
Welcome to the madhouse from a fellow Derbyshire inmate....we’re starting to build up quite a fleet now.
We’ve done a few river runs this year ourselves and as stated, loads more rules and regs than on the sea. To be fully compliant we stumped up for the any 30 day in a year Explorer licence, as the day licences are no longer available. Although in four trips thus far, no one has asked to see or stamp it. We already had/have insurance...also with Craftinsure.
Enjoy your new boat.
