F-rib 2.75, 6hp set-up.

Post by stevexxxuk » 03 Oct 2019, 15:08

After considering just about every other boat fav being the Cadet 310 I'm now seriously considering the small 2-75 f-rib coupled with a 6hp outboard. I need something my aging body can handle from the boot, inflate quickly and wheel down a beach to launch single handed without a trailer. I believe these can be inflated in about 5 mins (electric pump? I tend to stick inshore perhaps venturing a couple of miles out in nice weather. Ive read loads about these boats and although I would love something a little bigger don't think I could manage the weight unless I go for an air deck but then I know i will need a bigger outboard than the 6... The other option would be a 330 frib but not sure I could handle the extra weight lifting in and out the car alone and again would I need bigger than a 6 ? I don't want to end up with a boat I can't handle .. Just looking for thoughts on this and if there is anyone local to aberystwyth who has a frib I can take a look at i would be very grateful as a trip to kent is impractical right now....

The 275 with a 6hp is quite a capable setup. Look on YouTube for videos by Donnie Wilcox who has that exact combination.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

That’s my setup... 275 and a Yamaha F6. It makes a great little rig and planes very nicely if you’re 1 up. The boat is still heavy but manageable - I lift mine in and out the back of a Landcruiser.

Its the same weight as the cadet I was thinking about so I don't think I could get much lighter. as long as I can lift it in and out of the van I'm fine and I was thinking I could even use wheels and a plank if need be. of course ive still got to get it into the water...

I've got the F-rib 360, with Beachmaster replica wheels, which I leave on. I move the boat round on the wheels when it's folded up in its bag, a bit like a wheel barrow. To get it in the van, I rest it against the floor lip, lift the bottom of the boat level, then push, I never have to lift its full weight. The 15hp 2 smoke is a different matter though.

I really think just for myself the 275 is all I need. I do like those beachmaster wheels but need the removable ones so I can fit a little auxiliary outboard. I do like the fact you can push it like a barrow which makes live even easier, if only they were motorized like my fishing barrow :D
