It’s the 2019 Mariner 20 efi. So the same as the current Merc and Tohatsu 20 efi’s introduced in 2018.

If your running it on a T38, then a much safer bet to go with the Suzuki. Great motor, we had one in 2013 when they first came out.

Wish I’d bought another one now. Hey Ho :rofl

Sorry to hear that you felt you had to cancel your Tohatsu. Were you going to buy a new one?
No I was not going to buy a new one this was a 2016 20hp 4 stroke Tohatsu…….. I think I might just stick with my 15 hp 2 stroke.... But still thinking

Well I am going to make a plate which bolts onto my AV plate to make it more like the one on the Suzuki. If that works then we will have isolated the problem and found a solution - then any engine at the right price would be ok.

just read every bit of this thread and was wondering would this small av plate issue only affect sibs or is it likely to manifest itself in any other way on my rib for instance (30 tohatsu) ? . if you have collectively found the cause of the problem could you not gain from the manufacturers for this research ,it would be quite a breakthrough. fascinating!

@chris moody, what does the AV plate on the Tohatsu look like?

-edit: just found a picture - it is quite different from the Suzuki.

I suspect that the problem is made worse by the floor on the Honwave, so it may not be so prevalent on other floor types.

I don’t want to speculate any more until I have made the plate extensions and tried them.

Yup that is an inch longer than the new Merc/Mariner/Tohat and I think that could make all the difference
