Put your wheels down then :D
Good idea. :thumbsup

In fact I’ll leave the rib in the car park and just take the tow car.

Seriously though, if i'm in unknown shallow waters i put my wheels down...
Saves on expensive repairs to the prop or gearbox and if you're that unsure you won't be doing any sort of speed.

I've just done the passage plan for Hamble to Ryde.

It's a fairly simple drawing but it contains loads of useful information.
  • The heading to the next buoy
  • The name of the buoy
  • The colours of the buoy
  • The shape of the buoy
  • Which side I am passing the buoy on
  • The headings for the return trip
  • The working VHF channel

With just this passage plan in a waterproof wallet (or laminated), a compass, and a pair of eyeballs, I can find my way from The Hamble to Ryde and back.

Please can a few of you check the headings, buoy colours, and shapes on a chart to make sure I haven't made any mistakes.

Thanks Andy, all good advice.

Flippant reply from myself, sorry. The clue was, we’ll be in the rib.....no wheels. :thumbsup

Not really scared of the shallows, cautious yes, and we do have the luxury of power trim.
Actually even in a sib I would favour engaging shallow drive before lowering the undercarriage.

I'm impressed with the above actually. It gives a quick insight into what to do, and ya can get ya crayons out !

Now all we need to do is digitise it, and transmit it to everyone with a radio with GPS, lol ! Yes this can be done !

Very impressive, Chris. I can see how this would really help in unfamiliar territory - a stranger could follow it and arrive at their destination.

Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

If all is okay, do we have a rough departure time yet, bearing in mind @harrison has a 4 hour journey, ish? :LMT
And do we have a 100% launching site ?

Warsash slip is the departure point. The car park is free and the launch fees are only a few pounds. I’m arriving for 0915 with the aim to be on the water and ready to go by 1030. We can enter Ryde harbour from 1120 onwards. My plan is to have a wander around the town of Ryde and have lunch in the Castle hotel. I’m expecting to leave Ryde around 1330 and on the way back we could pop into either Wootton Creek or the river Medina. I’m planning on getting back to Warsash by 1530 latest, meaning I can be packed away and on the road by 1630.

Do those timings fit in with everyone coming?
