Re: Radio Poll
It’s good that we now have an answer to the monitoring marine VHF channels without a SRC Certificate question.

Indeed...just waiting for storm Charley to get lost then hopefully a clear spell on his back....Sarah wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 14:55On this occasion I might have a slightly different view, in this case they will costs to administer the scheme, they process the applications, update the syllabus, provide support and advice to instructors....not sure how much this costs but they do actively get involved
As for charity vs business I do take your point generally - I have no idea how this applies to the RYA though and what functions go through the charity or business - I haven't studied the financials - would rather go boating.... :-D As you say we may be heading off topic - time to get afloat.
Have to say this has been a fascinating discussion -who knew it would run for so long!

Re: Radio Poll
One shame about this debate we have all been having is that only about 4% or the members here have responded to what their radio situation is.

Re: Radio Poll
It is a shame Digi but there are many members that do not monitor the forum as often as some, or are inactive until they have a specific question or looking for a particular piece of info or advice. That's "just one" of the many good things about the forum that we all enjoy. We can just pop on and search or we can pop on and ask, it's backed up daily and the info will always be there. Those peeps that havn't seen or voted can still see this thread and can still vote if and when they want and still gain the info from it too. Bloody marvellous!!digitalman wrote: ↑11 Oct 2018, 13:10One shame about this debate we have all been having is that only about 4% or the members here have responded to what their radio situation is.
This has been an excellent thread with great input from many I think, but yes I would also have liked to have seen a bit more participation in the poll too but obviously each to their own and it's their choice I guess.
I'll ask Martin to send out a postal vote cos he said he likes doing stuff like that

Re: Radio Poll
So on today's boat I did a radio check on ch65 with Gosport NCI before heading out the harbour, no response. Two more calls to Gosport NCI, still no response. So then I switched over to my known working handheld (last tested 5 days ago) and they responded immediately. I asked about the earlier calls and they said I had been "broken and unreadable"
It just goes to prove you cannot assume your radio will transmit just because you can receive transmissions from others on it. Start doing radio checks guys (obviously with a SRC Certificate).

Re: Radio Poll
Let’s see if we can get a group of us together over the winter and get our certificates sorted out. I for one am totally up for it. I work shifts so I am often available during the week.
Sarah, how many people would we need for a group?

Re: Radio Poll
Having refreshed my 1st aid via Sarah earlier this year you would be getting quality training... if anyone wants to combine it with other courses while this way and with them I'd highly recommend it...1st aid, pb2 , inter or advanced..you'd come out much more confident
