Where to go for first setup/running in

Post by Thetaffysailor » 03 Aug 2018, 08:38

Hello all, I’ve now at last got my shiny new Honda 20hp outboard.
I’m looking for recommendations to where I can go for the first run.
I live in Newport South Wales so would prefer somewhere not too far from here for the first outing. Only because I no il be forgetting something !
I think the first outing is going to be more of a what else do I need outing 🙄.
I’m looking to go out over this weekend 4th/5th Aug.
Anyone local wanna come laugh at me getting it all wrong ?

Check the regulations on beach/slip launching. Wales councils appear to like charging for registration, often they require insurance too. South Wales may be different but north wales is a pain.

I used to frequent black rock quite regular - that beach is great to launch from but is strictly monitored by the coast guard and the money grabbing vultures on the access gates.

Hmm ok. Seems you can’t have fun on anything without a licence or insurance etc.
There’s Always someone trying to scam £ out of us one way or another.
I’ve been told to try under the seven bridge and head upto tintern.
Any experience with there ?

Had the first outing all went good apart from leaving the wheels on 🙄.. went much better with them up !

Any idea to what I would have to pay for insurance ? Any recommended sites ?

I think the two main insurers people on here use are Craftinsure and Alan & Thomas Marine insurance.

With both you can do an online quote from their websites, and I think they come out pretty similar on price.

http://www.alan-thomas-marine.co.uk/

http://www.craftinsure.com/

I use Alan & Thomas as I know the guys that work there (I go boating with them), where I've never met the people that run Craftinsure.

:thumbsup Good start that. Craftinsure for insurance, cost depends on what cover you want, but they are competitive and from past experience from other members, they pay out when you need them. Best to ring them up and get a quote over the phone. :cheers

I’ve stopped mentioning Alan and Thomas now..
2 reasons,
Firstly I believe a good member of their staff left due to the way things were going.. alledgedly :LMT

Secondly, because they deem it acceptable to pinch the wording from our website and use it as their own. No permission asked or granted.
I believe there may well be a copywrite Infringement there.. :sarky

Martin

What wording have they pinched? Have you called them and spoken to either John or Matt about the pinched wording? I would hope a simple telephone call would sort out any copyright infringement. Keep us all posted on progress regarding this matter.
