Engine size

Folding Ribs or F-Ribs are a great way of obtaining a hard hull boat but having the flexibility of a sib.
F-Ribs have the 3 or 4 section articulating hinge joint that allow the boat to fold up for ease of storage & transportation. A great idea opening up a whole new world of opportunity.

Have you thought about the weight of the f-rib and how you’re going to handle that ?
It’s a little heavier than the 9.9hp outboard ... :thumbsup

I have kept a number of fast fishers at the Camber Dry Stack over the past few years and one of them had a 100hp on the back and even with that power the harbour entrance can be a scary place. I am probably going to limit my trips to mostly in the harbour now, including Langston and Chichester and so a 6hp should cope. Putting my 6hp on the back of a 360 with Steve Bruce on Wednesday and hopefully this will force a decision but if anyone can solve the problem of getting a 37Kg Tohatsu 9.8hp safely from the car onto the back of a 360 alone without damage to either myself or the engine, then problem solved. One way or another I am getting a 360, its just a question whats on the back. Watch this space.
Please give my regards to Steve and Ricky when you meet them on Wednesday :thumbsup
Together we carried out some test runs with 360 and smaller OB's which didn't just quite lift the boat onto the plane unfortunately :(
Don't read me wrong as I loved my FRIB 360 ownership of 3 years :D and I'm also familiar with Langstone and Chichester harbour areas.
If fishing is your main use I'm told the best is to be had in the neck of these inlets which you can drift fish back and forth on the tide flow of 6-8knts .... but again busy during the warmer months
If your use is solely within the main harbour or on the slack then jobs a good un :thumbsup
:cheers

Hi To all those who commented on the 'what size engine' question. I feel as if I am a real member now as I bought a FRIB 360 this morning having tried it with the yam6 on the back. Got up on the plane nicely with a few revs to spare, so as i won't be going to the outer reaches of the Solent only the tranquil waters of Portsmouth/Langstone/Chichester harbours, that's me sorted.

Congrats on the purchase. That’s an excellent boat :thumbsup!

Interesting to hear it gets on the plane with a 6hp and revs to spare. Presuming that’s solo. I’d be interested to know how it performs 2-up.

Nice job! you'll have lots of fun in it. After a while I'm sure you'll want to venture a little further as your confidence builds in the boat. I've been out in some pretty rough stuff in mine, and have a lot of confidence in it's abilities.
Why am I here - I should be in my boat fishing!!

For Sale

Post by bumblefish » 09 May 2018, 21:27

Hi All
Went for my first trip in my new F-RIB 360 today. Success but ...! I keep my boat in a dry stack in Portsmouth that has fees paid up for a year. I have an F-RIB because occasionally I want to pack it up and transport the RIB to other places. Unbelievably it turns out that it's too small and light for the yard's big folk lift to safely launch the RIB. Perversely, no problems launching a big 9 metre RIB or a 5 ton hard-sider but the narrowness of the F360 hull means the forks cannot be positioned correctly so the boatyard can't safely launch the F360. Did not consider this before I tried and bought the boat. Can't afford to let the dry stack fees lapse and makes no sense to keep a boat I cannot lunch, so very reluctant sale.
I bought the F360 from Steve Bruce in April, just 4 weeks ago; it was his demo boat. I paid £2100 for what is a virtually new boat [£2795 retail]. I shall be advertising the RIB on the usual websites in the next couple of days but first I want to offer it to members for £2000; it comes with wheels; never been in the water and a bow canopy. I have a virtually new Yamaha 6 with less than 5 hours running that was dealer serviced in Jan this year. I have run the engine for about 30 mins. I have a dealer trade-in offer for the outboard of £700 so I will let it go for that but the F-RIB 360 is the principal sale item at £2K. It can be viewed at anytime in Portsmouth. I can send actual pics taken during today's maiden and last voyage.
