Re: Standard Horizon HX870 is it any good ?
Just checked the current consumption of the HX870. With a fully charged 1800MaH battery it should manage 18 hours on standby, or 5 hours continuously receiving transmissions, or just over 1 hour continuously transmitting at 6W.
As I generally transmit for between 30 to 120 seconds total in a day that is going to have minimal effect on battery consumption. I guess it's how busy the listening channel is that is going to have the most effect on how quickly the battery drains.

Just checked the transmit power and its 6w high 2w medium and 1w low. The 5w is when you are using the AA battery pack.

Re: Standard Horizon HX870 is it any good ?
Ive just bought a secondhand one of these with the original owners MMSI number still in it. Does it have to go back to manufacturer to get this cleared so I can enter mine?

Yes, unfortunately it's a return to manufacturer option only.
It'd be great if you can keep us posted as to the time scale & costs incurred ? That's something we're not aware of yet.

Re: Standard Horizon HX870 is it any good ?
Very pleased with mine.
I called Standard Horizon and they said the normal charge for resetting an MMSI number was £30. So I sent it off and 3 days later got it back with a note saying that there was no charge, not even return postage. Great customer service!!

Bummer. Maybe that's why I have two ex-wives and the company provides my Pan European ST1300. However I have to downsize to a BMW 1200RT soon. Any news on your engine fix yet?mattswan2512 wrote:Ive just brought a seriously beefy full stainless system for my yamaha xsr 700 so no boat related purchases for me for a few months or wifey willlllll kill meThe Hobbit wrote:Same here Matt, That's next months large purchase and it'll probably be the standard horizon.mattswan2512 wrote:Reading with interest as im yet to buy my handset![]()
