Trailer..I agree with all comments. I was going to get a new trailer from Extreme this year as my old one is rusting badly (not galvanised) However I have since found the Extreme trailer has Alco axle with "sealed for life" bearings. I would much prefer standard taper bearings so I can clean them or replace them when I want .. its easy to do ..and they are cheap to buy. sealed for life bearings do go eventually and are expensive to replace.

The indespension trailers .. I believe have normal taper bearings ..perhaps the guys can confirm this ? ..so I will probably get one myself.. eventually :D :thumbsup
Indeed Donny they are good old taper roller bearings which suited me best being ole school ;-)
The Extreme trailers are very good I'm sure but another factor which swung me to the Indespension was the max load weight limits of the Extreme in comparison for your £££'s if you go and change your boat, wanting to keep your trailer 350kg to 550kg is huge

Quick update on this thread.

Got a 13 pin removable Westfalia swan neck tow bar fitted to my VW Sharan last week. There are so many options out there, I went for the dedicated wiring so it is properly wired into the system with the dedicated VW electronics so doesn't upset the reversing sensors and the rest of the electrics etc (also I hated the thought of using those Scotchlok connectors). £550 from Northwest Towbars which I think is pretty good and the service was great - highly recommended.
The new Sharan already has a cutout under the bumper but for some Euro/UK compatibility reason they have to extend the cutout a little bit but all totally invisible and once the swan neck is removed (takes about 3 seconds) you can't even tell the car has a towbar fitted at all.

More importantly I'm picking up my indespension micro swing roller trailer tomorrow :D - Thanks for your help Martin.

Only Q at the moment. When you are storing your F-RIB permanently inflated should you store it at lower pressure and top it up when you use it, or keep it full pressure all the time?

Looking forward to the extra flexibility of having the boat trailered.

Paul - thanks for the info so far - no doubt Ill have some Qs when I get the trailer given you have the exact same setup. It's the first trailer I've ever owned so Ill put any Qs on here so it might be of use to others.

Our pleasure buddy. :clappy
As for the storage, I'd leave it short on pressure whilst not in use, it'll allow for expansion as the weather becomes warmer then.

I'm currently looking at placing a keel roller under the mid section of the frib whilst seated on the trailer, That's something i'll update too as and when i've done it. :thumbsup

Trailer for SIB/F-RIB?

Post by chris moody » 18 Feb 2017, 09:40

If the boat is stored outside I would drop the pressure as sunlight on the tubes will heat the air inside them up and increase the pressure considerably. I have my Honwave up to full working pressure at present in my garage as I'm checking that it has no leaks, but my garage stays a fairly constant temperature, there is no heating effect from sunlight, and I'm checking it daily.

My rib is outside, and around 140 miles away from home, so that's stored with the pressure reduced. I need to go and check on it next week as I'll probably need to let some more air out as the ambient temperature is likely to be rising.

Could you not fill it with nitrogen instead chris? As you live a distance away? I used to race and we used nitrogen (not that expensive) to fill the race tyres because it is not really effected by temperatures. Of your boat is leak free it may be worth the few quid investment in fuel costs alone.....

Well the boat is now happily inflated on the trailer in my garage.
I ended up adjusting pretty much every adjustable part but happy with the result.

I found that because the frib v hull is so shallow and barely comes below the tubes, even with the rollers in their highest position and as close together as poss to push the boat as high as poss on the trailer the bottom of the tubes still just touch the top of the mudguards but i gess thats not the end of the world.

It is slightly nose heavy but not enough so ill sort that tomorrow by moving the axle back a bit.

Pleased with it. Looks the business. Thanks.

If nose heavy you need to move the axle forwards.

I could, but to be honest it's no real effort keeping it slightly under inflated, and checking each time I'm down.

Teaching a pb2 course next week in portsmouth so down south anyway.

Hi Chris. I meant it's nose heavy now but only just by a tiny amount. I think I red that you want a good few kg nose weight so was going to move the axle back to increase the existing small amount of nose weight. Hope that's right.
