Re: Dark side antifoul question
You could always not re antifoul, and just lift out weekly and jet wash the hull. The old antifoul will eventually wear away

Yes its something that crossed my mind i must admit but ive seen boats that have allowed this to happen and they look a bit scragglychris moody wrote:You could always not re antifoul, and just lift out weekly and jet wash the hull. The old antifoul will eventually wear away

But i guess its all money spent under the water line and if its not a neccesity which it isnt........ i reckon the misses will kick off if i leave it but i might delay and see what she sais.
Jo is a bit of a clean nut i get winged at when i take the boat fishing as she thinks it will return as shiny and clean as when it went out lol she has even told me what colour the antifoul is to be.......

Be happy she's taken interest in the boat, I guess. Mine treats our boat and my Jeep like they're my mistresses. I just mention either one and I'm given 'the look'.
Wrote a note said, 'back in a minute'. Bought a boat and I sailed off in it.

Re: Dark side antifoul question
reading this thread all i'd add is..
A: for the size of boat use anfifoul not copper coat...it's cost prohibitive on a trailable boat (i've got copper coat on Desperate) and even a touchup tin of the stuff is mega expensive.
B: use a hard antifoul like International Trilux 33. good stuff, will last the whole season no worries and look nice.
C: moving movig a boat on a trailer is easy without moving anything. simply drop the strap around a bearer further back down the trailer then back up to the tow eye..use the winch on the trailer.

Is it worth antifouling if the boat is out of the water most of the year si?Si Crowe wrote:reading this thread all i'd add is..

Good shout on the trailer idea si!!! I had a similar plan of using a hgv ratchett strap on the axle to the boat tow eye and pull it bk that way.... your does sound a lot easier tho!!!
Thanks.

Re: Dark side antifoul question
if the boat in in the water for more than 2 weeks at a time yes...weed and barnacles grow very fast and will bugger performance in no time...
plus the trilux 33 is hard wearing and smooth...
other thing to consider if leaving the boat in the water for any period of time...are the anodes up to the job..alot of trailable boats anodes are pitiful purely because the boat live out of the water for 95% of the time...

Re: Dark side antifoul question
Matt
I've a petrol driven 200bar/3000psi pressure washer which is pretty good on such things from my 'dark side days' so we could try to remove the old stuff
Haven't fired it up for a few years but if required I will do so prior to having a go at yours
Happy to help if I can, just need an on site water supply
I must get round to sorting though my 'stuff' as I'm sure it may be of benefit to fellow 'dark siders'
