Aransas Pass Fishing Trip

Post by 9-R » 11 Oct 2016, 13:28

Been wanting to take my boy to the coast for a fishing trip all summer and finally found a weekend to do it. Unfortunately it was very windy and it made for very rough conditions in the main channels. The wind was so strong that we had difficulty anchoring so we usually tied off to a channel marker post to keep from drifting into the oyster beds.

Not even a bite! Was out on the water about 7 hours. Went to all of the 'guaranteed' locations from a friend of mine who frequents the area and we had no luck. Despite the wind and no fish, we still had a great time. Saw more dolphins than ever before, ventured into some unknown areas and checked out some interesting boats.

Not much natural scenery so the boat variety can be the attraction some times.

Only RIB we've ever seen around these parts.

My boy really wanted to head back into the harbor to see the pirate ship tour.

I've been enjoying seeing some of the more classic boats than the large-&-n-charge luxury yachts.

Hard to catch a photo of the dolphins. Quick buggers. About 5-6 were hanging around the harbor swimming all around us.

Was disappointed we were on the other side of the bay and not closer when this cargo ship came through.

Never seen a dog so excited before. He was standing on the side with his tail wagging profusely looking like he was ready to jump.

Headed back into a gated canal community to check things out. Found some neat boats unusual to the area.

One of the bling-bling skiffs found in the area.

Wrote a note said, 'back in a minute'. Bought a boat and I sailed off in it.

Good photos, maybe some fish next time.
Hard to catch a photo of the dolphins. Quick buggers.

A fast shutter speed and set the camera to burst mode, often helps.

:cheers My DSLR broke so waiting on bonus to purchase another. Only had my little P&S but I love it because it's waterproof and impact resistant.

Nice day out and some great photos there 9-R :TY
That RIB has some serious 'A' frame, or should I say 'scaffolding' going on :sarky
Shame about the lack of fish but hey :!: more boating memories with your lad out on the water, that's what really matters 8-)
:cheers

The RIB is used by a company to tow you in if you break down. Expensive measure. Not sure if they tie off to the 'A' frame when applicable?
