Been a fair while since logging on here so i though I'd update this thread...

So, after getting bored of the york Ouse (only so many times you can go to York befor you wanna drown yasen) I made the decision to move back to Goole. While i Know Goole isn't the most pretty of spots it does have up sides i can now appreciate a bit more...
1, closer to home so less driving
2, right on ocean lock at goole so more play time on the Humber
3, security,
4, canal network... if it blowing a gale i can still use the boat
5, hard standing for winter...

any who, the trip down the ouse was really nice so obviously Naburn lock was dealt with 1st...
FB_IMG_1534774906235.jpg
FB_IMG_1531066766859.jpg
locked out with a NB and a Bayliner both of which were overtaken quickly so we could motor at a sensible speed..
20180707_131742.jpg
20180707_131736.jpg
we stopped at Barmby Barrage for the night so broke out the BBQ and Beers...the Dogs were battered!!!

following morning was another belter so dropped the Sib in the drink and had a paddle (before you say anything yes i know, no lifejacket blah blah blah but as you can see there is no tidal flow and i went swimming in it so it's all good) with Charlie dog

anyway, caught the next tide out and headed down to Howden Dyke..

as you can see at 24kts the water looks like chocolate milk...
got into Ocean Lock and here she is on her new home berth...glad to be back...

well, thats it for now.

Its a good fun run but the top end of the tidal ouse is full of floating shite so slow going as you dont want to shear a blade on a prop. once you get to Cawood bridge is opens up to a nice 10/12 kts can be carried on. The stop at Barmby Barrage is due to the tides and the water around Howden Dyke getting very shallow at low tide (plus Ocean lock at goole is only accessible 1hr before HT and a few after with nowhere to wait outside. The humber has a huge tidal range plus load of shifting banks so advisable to stick to the narrow deep water channel.

launching at york ok but getting down river in a rib and back is a full week of tide playing... good fun though

A page I follow about Classic Offshore Powerboat Racing shared a few photos taken in the early/mid 80's at various Cowes Torquay races... low and behold lurking... there in the middle of it all is my (dads) boat... I remember these races as a kid.
CTC Winners berth. About 1985.

and agian, mooching past Cowes Yacht Haven 1982 with the original radar unit on the arch and a tinker tramp dinghy hanging on the transom.

A bit of a blast from the past...

Cool trip! I had to follow along on Google Maps. Very interesting how much the tide has an affect on the river that far up. Anxious to follow along on your first trip to Humbler if you post.

Goole appears to be more of an industrial setting? I'm sure you'll have fun with those new surroundings and with access to the coast. I'd enjoy checking out all of the activity.

Desperate is in great shape. Can really tell that you and your dad have taken very good care. Love how the teak floors turned out.

:thumbsup

Been a fair while since i last posted so heres a little update.
Desperate has been out of the water (and in need of a bloody good wash and polish but that will come) since last year and won't be seeing water again until the Cutlass Bearings in the P brackets are replaced... however the problem are the props... buggers wont come off!! they have been on for 23 years so are prooving to be a PITA!!! tried a few pullers but to no avail. A mate has got a 20ton puller so thats gonna get some hammer.

the cutlas bearing have been in since 1996 so have done well and under some investigation they are the Phelonic Type (instead of brass) so hopfully should come out easily (ish)... funnily enough, the tiny grub screws that hold them in place were the easiest thing to remove which isn't normally thr case.. but hey ho. :scratch
20190419_105148.jpg
For those that are unsure, the cutlass bearing sits in the P bracket that holds the shaft with the props on the end. the shaft runs through the P and has effectivly a fluted nitrile rubber bearing to stop the shaft vibrating and uses the water flow to keep it lubricated.
20190507_090453.jpg
as you can see they are well worn so needs doing.
in other news, i've stripped out all 6 of the old crappy tube lights that caned the batteries and fitted RGB led strips that use less than a 1/4 of the juice in the forward cabin...

20190506_112135.jpg
20190506_112140.jpg
20190506_112157.jpg
and even have the ability for port and starboard cos im a tart... :D :D
20190506_112253.jpg
the head lining needs to go back up, but overall i'm happy with the results...

also fitted some vinyl faux teak in the aft cabin to kinda match the rest of the boats teak and holly that in the cockpit and forward cabin. its the self adhesive EVA foam stuff so soft under foot but easy to keep clean and wont absorb moisture and smells. Again, not perfect but im happy with the result, just need to refit the stainless steel ring pulls to be able to lift the board to get to the bilge.

once the cutlass bearing are done, the seasonal prep will start... i'm itching to get her wet but untill she's right, she's not moving.
