Frib insurance

Post by philpot » 02 Jun 2016, 18:27

I thought I would ask around what sort of insurance deals people have been able to get for the Frib/engine before I sort mine. So what price and with who and if you don't object, value of the outfit so I can compare. I estimate my rig at £3800 to replace.

I put my updated details into craftinsure website, £4k value, and it came back with a quote of about £65. As my insurance is due this month and I've been with them for a few years, I'm going to give them a ring to see if they can do any better.

Why don't you try John Friendship at Alan Thomas Marine insurance. He sorts out boat insurance for lots of us over on RHIBs. Just mention RHIBs when you call and John will look after you.

I tried John (Got Peter) for my new to come purchase, I've got a figure to work with.
Craft insure although are cheap for the sib, once you get to the capability of 30knts FRIB, it looks like their prices increase dramatically.
Craft insure have asked me to call them when the new boat arrives, to see what they can do with the already in place sib insurance policy, ie increase the cost but upgrade the policy so I don't loose out.
I think the following year will be a jump ship, so pls talk to John & Peter as Chris advises.

Give us a clue. :? :star :star

What are you putting on the back? Mine's good for low 20s with the 15hp, that's fast enough for me. :o

Don't just buy on policy price. If the unthinkable happened, and I needed to claim, would I prefer dealing with John & Peter, or a string of nameless people in an overseas call centre that knew nothing about boats? The fact that John is also competitive on price is a bonus, but it's not the primary reason I use them.

I'd imagine Martin and Craftinsure are working on figures I've given them with a 20hp :|
I've twice GPS 'clocked' 28 knots/32 mph in a slight chop of .5M with me and 70kg of gear which would seem to be about right as I've also 'clocked' James with his 15hp at 22 knots/ 25 mph in the same conditions/same day :|
Never had flat calm or lake waters to see the results but it'd be interesting

I'm sticking a new 20hp Suzuki efi on it, not sure but I'm expecting capability of 30knts which according to my latest quote from craft insure is going to be £140 ish.

Peter M came in more expensive than Paul advised me he was paying, but my overall set-up being brand new will be worth a bit more possibly than Pauls, And with my new figures, craft insure have come back more expensive than we first discussed. Working on the fact that Peter M & John Smith are renowned for their knowledge and exceptional after sales service, I may well go with them. If it's the same or better cover & cheaper too, I'd be daft not to.

I'll have a chat with Peter & John and see if we can't get a bit of group discount :Confused :hugs
