Trailering a F-Rib

Post by Paul » 10 May 2016, 21:21

As Martin and a few others have asked about trailering an F-Rib I thought I'd give you my 2p and hopefully save you a lot of research time

It basically came down to two trailer manufactures that ticked all the boxes for me....the trailer had to be FULLY adjustable in, draw bar length, axle position, roller height, roller width, roller position, snub/winch position, fully galvanised, easy light-board removal/fitment and tapered roller bearings so I could service them......only two met the specs, Extreme Trailers and Indespension Trailers.
Extreme EXT350, 350kg load capacity £671 or the EXT500, 500kg load capacity £836
Indespension Coaster Micro, load capacity 575kg £700 (and I got them to 'chuck in' a spare wheel and mounting bracket in the price)

I bought Indespension as it's a well known name with a dealer network, good price, good specs....very happy so far :D

Paul, My good man... Thankyou greatly !!!
The two you have mentioned were the two I was looking at, to see yours in such great detail helps tremendously, and the fact Indespension are only in Leeds, I think I've just found the perfect trailer.
Completely fully adjustable, plenty of load scope, spare wheel and carrier and buy anywhere bearings.... Brilliant.
Job Sorted

i know im being awkward but isnt trailiering an f rib defeating the object of having an f rib? surely a normal rib would suffice?

Its not being awkward lol, it's a perfectly good question.
It's a case of striking a happy medium Si.
I always take the boat when we go caravanning, how can I do that if I have a rib ?
The FRIB has advantages and disadvantages just the same as any boat, IMO though, the FRIB is king of the foldable/rollable boating world.
To leave the FRIB on a trailer leaves me the option of hook up and go at a moments notice, whereas with the rolled up sib in my garage, it takes time to load up and wastes the time I could be spending on the water.
Everyone has different needs and requirements, the hardest part being understanding others and their way of life.
A non folding boat would be totally impractical and a worthless purchase as my life is ATM.
In 10yrs time, who knows what I'll own.

Likewise my Honwave lives on its trailer, mainly due to where I live, which is 5 minutes from the sea, :star But also its much easier and quicker to get ready, to be honest, if I had to blow it up every time I wanted to use it, i would probably never got it in the first place,

Nice one Paul.
That's the trailer I was recommended for my prospective buy of 2017 - Highfield 380 CL.
Going through to Edinburgh next week to see a brand new Highfield on an indespension micro trailer rigged ready to roll (for another customer).
Once I've seen it in the raw aluminium/PVC I'll know if it's for me or not.
Gonna wait till next year before I dive in :cheers .

I am still looking for a folding trailer. They are mega expensive.
If only I had the skills to build them.

Si
Yup, you're right to think that but as others have said I do like taking my boat away with me whilst towing my caravan.......I'm a greedy bugger and want the best of both worlds :party

I think that's kind'a the point.
It's convenient to trailer, but nice to have the option to fold it up and take it away when trailering is not an option...
