275 as fishingboat?

Post by nilofgren » 06 May 2016, 09:08

Hello, i am looking for a way to get out on the water for some fishing in smaller lakes here in sweden were i live. Theres no retailers here to try a frib but it looks like an option for me. My situation is that i live in an apartment and have a vw transporter for transportation. My options i have thought of is either a porta-bote 8fot or a frib which would fit in the back of my car.

I have looked at the 275 as i am thinking on fishing by myself most of time but is there room for two persons to fish from the boat? There is only one bench.. i would like to mount a litle electric motor for the small lakes at home. If you mount a combustion engine can you take it out on the big sea or is the boat to small for that?

I would like to try one out but theres no retailers in stockholm sweden so are my only hope for guidense. :)

Hi Nilofgren.
Welcome to our inflatable boat forum.
I will be speaking to F-Rib HQ on Saturday, so I will find out for you where your nearest dealer is.
Whilst your awaiting an answer from the FRIB owners, have a good look around on the f-rib threads. There lots of info on the boats and modifications too.
Enjoy the forum, I'll be in touch soon

Hi Nilofgren and :welcome to the forum :)

The Gurnard on here has a wealth of experience with boats and has purchased a 275 which is exceeding his expectations in its capabilities so far :party and feels it's a very sea worthy boat 8-)
Transporting and handling of the 275 with a VW Transporter will not be an issue at all IMO as the boat is light, can be transported on its transom end up-rite ;-)
If you intend going to sea and wish it to plane 2 up I'd imagine a 9-10hp would be the ideal outboard to power the setup to overcome any strong water conditions you may encounter :| however I've no idea or experience of your coastal waters and may well be wrong :Confused
Hopefully Gurnard will be along to give you his personal opinion on adding the extra bench seat and space for the two of you to go fishing in the 275
:cheers

I've spoken to F-Rib today for you. Unfortunately as you say, they don't have a dealer in your vicinity
Our forum members that have the frib speak exceedingly highly of them, F-Rib UK will answer any questions you may have.. Don't be shy in asking anything

If you decide the FRIB is for you, I'm sure F-Rib UK will happily despatch one to you. Again, speak to them directly. :cheers
F-RibsAndSibs.Com.... :whistle
Because it's a big old WWworld out there

Hi Nilofgren ..yup the F Rib 270 is a great wee boat..and far better than any inflatable of that size. Its very seaworthy ..and I have no issues going to sea in it..but wouldnt like to be caught out in a Force 4 or above wind..far from shore.(2 meter high waves). I power mine with a 6HP fourstroke as the setup is easy for me to move on my own. With me and my gear..the 6HP goes 17 mph top speed..so a fair turn of speed.

If fishing two up..I would go for the next size up ..eg the F Rib 330..which is the advice I gave my brother..as he bought it for family use. The 6HP engine wont plane with two average sized adults though.. so consider a 10HP if going two up regular.

Hope that helps

Hi Nilofgren and welcome aboard.

I am a little familiar with the potaboat and can say there is no comparison between the boats. I would NEVER to to sea in a portaboat as they are not designed for salt water and have no buoyancy built in to them. Unless you buy a Torqeedo electric outboard for the Frib (I owned a Torqeedo and they are superb), the normal electric motors are not strong enough to push the Frib at anything more than a few miles/kilometers per hour and NEVER on salt water.

The largest leccy outboard is a 55lb thrust I believe and that is about one third of the power at the propeller compared to a Torqeedo motor along with the fact that they require a large and heavy battery again compared to the Torqeedo. The big problem is that the Torqeedo is very expensive but having owned one, I think they are worth every penny.

Folding rib company are also stockists of Torqeedo if you are interested.

Hope that helps a little.

Phil
