F-Rib - Securing items

Post by James » 07 Sep 2015, 12:33

Hi

I went out for an awesome 25 mile ride in the F-Rib down at Newhaven this Sunday.
I was wondering, how do you secure your fuel tanks down? My SIB has straps holding it down to the air floor.
I also find you need weight up front as it makes the boat go faster and handles better.

Here is a boring and sped up video of the day

Camera details are..

The Camera is Sony as100v ActionCam. The 200 or 4k camera's are out now.
There are two water proof cases
The one that comes with it, (which is the one I am using) is 16.4ft.
The other case goes down to 197ft

I prefer it to the GoPro mainly because if it's shape.

GPS over lay comes part of the editing software

I don't like drilling or glueing my boats unless there's no other option so I've utilised the hull connecting bolts as securing points.
I've replaced the plastic 'wing nuts' with some stainless M12 'D' nuts, 53mm OA dia and 32mm ID.
I also found some brackets laying around in the garage to place under the bolt 'head' so I've now got securing points both sides of the hull floor cross beam.
Here's the rig

I've done this to both front and rear so I've got plenty of scope for lashing things down ;-)
I've extended my fuel hose so the tank now rides permanently in the bow for added weight towards the front for ballast.
:cheers

Thanks Paul, that's an awesome idea. I wonder if Screwfix sell those D bolts. I'll have a look on ebay later on.
Do you run a 12Lt or 22Lt fuel tank up front? If you have a picture of the tank strapped down in it's position, that would be awesome :-)
