Hi Phil,

welcome to the forum. Lots of great info and advice here.

Martin mentioned that I might be able to help with offers etc. You're right about the FRIBs not being discounted but there are some great package deals if you need an outboard - Suzuki 4-strokes at the best price you'll find. In addition, I can offer some extras if you purchase a FRIB. Would you like to give me a call tomorrow so we can see how I can help? My number is 07865091155 or email PurifierBoats@gmail.com

Cheers, Alan

Hi Alan,

Many thanks for getting in touch and for your contact details. Great to hear about the package deals.

Tomorrow might be a little tricky as I'm with clients all day, but will call you early next week if not before.

Cheers,

Phil

Hi Phil,

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, lets just say technical difficulties!!! :Confused Anyway, in answer to your questions, I chose to use a base so it would spread the load of the F Rib more evenly than just 2 small points of contact that the 2 roof bars would afford. It also provides more securing points to lash the whole thing onto.

To be brutally honest, if I was able to carry the package inside my vehicle and still allow full or most use of the interior, then that would be the way I would have chosen. However, with both 360 and a 20 gee gee outboard, that is a big big ask and still be able to carry 4 adults, 2 dogs and the usual several large bags of kit, so to us, towing a caravan as well, the Karitek was the only way forward, which would tick all of our boxes.

Another handy thing we find, is, even with the board (base) fitted to the Karitek, the entire sliding component is detachable as one piece from removing just 2 nuts. It also re fits the same, avoiding any adjustment or fiddling about. I have attached some piccies, showing the board being made, then slid off the rails, but attached to the vehicle, then a couple with the 360 loaded on top and finally, one showing the base and sliding rails off the vehicle.

Please feel free to ask any more questions.

Regards,

Loz

First up, apologies that I still haven't called you Alan. Work has been mega busy, which has prevented me ringing during daytime hours! I was actually hoping to drive over on Saturday and check out what package could work best for me, but will call tomorrow to check if that might be feasible.

Many thanks for the detailed reply and pics Loz. Very much appreciated. Looks like you've got a neat setup there :thumbsup.

I ended up getting hold of a set of well-priced 2nd hand Thule Wingbar Edge roof bars off eBay on Monday. I liked the design of these as they are virtually silent when you have nothing on them. There's really very little/no wind noise or drag, which will save me faffing around putting them on/off all the time. They're also pretty wide and should have a wider surface area than standard bars, which - coupled with some bar pads - I'm hoping is going to be enough to prevent damaging the hull of an Frib.

Here are the pads I'm looking to buy, which - unlike Thule's own brand - look like they will cover most of the width of the bar:

Here's a picture of the bars on the car:

So, with a solution hopefully sorted for putting an FRib on the car roof, my next challenge is what size engine I can fit in the boot as I can't seem to find what look like meaningful measurements for the 9-20hp Suzuki motors anywhere online

I've put my boot dimensions below with a couple of photos of my little 2.3hp Honda in situ, to give an idea of perspective:

The width of the boot is about 105cm.

Image

The length of the boot is about 88cm. I could put an engine in diagonally, if the dimensions work.

I've found what look like reasonable measurements for the Suzuki DF6 at the below link. If these are accurate, the Suzuki appears about 15cm taller/higher than the little Honda, but should just about fit in my boot diagonally as you can store this model on its front which is 31cm wide.

https://www.maritimepropulsion.com/files/pdf/1001403

As per the advice picked up on this forum, it's looking like a 6hp will limit me to a Frib 330 and will only just plane 2-up with a smaller prop. So, if I found the 330 to be a bit cosy when checking it out in person and I opted for the 360, I'd need to get a least a 9.9hp outboard.

I can't find measurements for 9.9hp motors and above, but assuming they're longer than 55cm across the side of the motor that you have to rest flat in the boot, I'm not sure that this will fit. I'm confused whether I'm getting these measurements wrong, though, as I've seen engines on this forum packed in boots horizontally with what looks like loads of space free.

Is it just that my boot is really small? I'd be interested if anyone has measurements of their 9.9, 15 or 20hp 4-stroke outboard and/or any advice on whether or not I'm going to be able to fit anything bigger than a 6hp in my car.

Cheers,

Phil

If they're of use to anyone, I managed to get my hands on the below dimensions for the Suzuki 8-20hp 4-strokes from the guys at http://www.ebcmarine.com.

I ended up ordering a 360 from Alan at FRIB SE on Saturday, along with a 15hp 2-stroke Johnson which easily fits in my boat and goes like stink! Will put up a new post with how I got on :D. Thanks for all the help getting me there guys...

I recently bought an f-rib 460, the brochure says it's 140cm in reality it's about 160-170. I have a. Big Ssangyong turismo with a VW transporter type of boot(van size) and I keep the boat there for now. As I need the boot for the dog plus outboard I found your post about sliding roof. My 460 should weight 75kg, can you please provide some links where did you bought the sliding roof?
Many thanks!
